To even compare Judge and Acuna is absurd. I know you’re just saying Judge sprayed too, but it’s literally like David and Goliath with those two. The fact that Acuna can hang with some of these big boys is nuts.

I think his swing could benefit from the HR Derby. He's leaving a lot on the table by being too patient at the plate. Maybe this will cause him to be a little more aggressive on those early fastballs. Lately he's been looking middle and away to drive HRs to center and right. He could use a little more aggressiveness and lift because he still has the explosiveness to drive the ball on breaking pitches away.

I think there's a bunch of selection bias going on with the talk about the HR derby messing up swings. I'm sure it happens but logically there would be more players that regress back to the mean in the second half of the year than those that improve on a first half. I can't wait for Alonso coming back to earth after a hot first half of the year and have the homerun derby blamed for it.

He might have a bad second half but it won’t be because of the derby. That’s been shown to be a myth. Plus, if there’s one participant who’s swing was not altered for the derby it’s Acuna’s. He sprayed the ball all over the field and hit it where it was pitched.

Very few have seen a negative result in the 2nd half because of the Derby in the past few seasons. I used to track this type of thing but it seems to be a non-issue now

What I liked about Acuna's two rounds is that it looked like he was hitting his homers with little effort. What I didn't like was that he seemed pretty much spent at the end of each of his rounds. Vlad Jr was taking viscous cut after viscous cut and seemed to fair better endurance wise.
