Is now a terrible time to be buying KGJ RC's? I wanted to put together the 6-card PSA rookie registry. I already own the Upper Deck PSA 10 which is the most expensive. Do you think some of these other options like the 89 Bowman come down a bit? They almost touched $1,000 and now are at $600. Would hate to buy it for $600 and watch it settle back down around $250. How do we think these "non-iconic" KGJ rookies will hold up?

Default Thanks!

So many awesome Griffey cards but I settled on 10 I am going after. 6/10 so far, not sure I'll be able to get the other 4 but I will try!

The 98 and 99 PMGs, the 98 Credentials, and the 99 Molten Metal Fusion Titanium. In other words, just a few easy to find cards hahaha.

Just picked this up. It’s a box topper 5x7. The image on the card is what drew me to it. It is a beautiful card in hand.

This card is great. Can’t help but feel as though votto is the odd man out, like he doesn’t fit in with the theme of the card. Maybe because they are all older players. Would have loved to see Eric Davis instead of votto. Still an awesome card

Default The Ken Griffey Jr Collector's Thread

Just received this back from BAS, and am beyond thrilled.

In 1989, my Dad was teaching 5th grade north of Seattle, running a weekly card club during lunch recess. One of his students was chosen as a ball girl for an M’s game, and brought him back this, after meeting Griffey and getting a ball for herself as well.

It was proudly displayed (and handled) in our house for decades, and gifted to me for Christmas the year before last.

The signature compares well with other known examples of his RC year autograph, and the “Haiti” mark on the OAL ball was used through 1989.

Example RC year auto for comparison.

Votto is the only modern player but I think the included players would be pretty close to listing the most iconic Reds from 1960 to current. I agree a guy like Eric Davis was pretty iconic in his time but this list includes HOFers or close misses. Votto could be a HOFer.

Griffey Jr. being included is what makes this card so much more desirable. Unfortunately we have lost a couple of these former players the last few years.
