No team would ever do this, but they should give each of their rookie QB's a guaranteed number of games so they can see what each guy has got.

Can’t guarantee it though in case someone gets hot.

The Browns are absolutely the team to watch this preseason.... Not necessarily in a good way.

But 4 guys legitimately fighting for the starting jobs.

4 guys that could all legitimately see themselves traded/cut

That's why I don't get outrage over this deal. It slots him on par with Alex Van Ginkel and right above Gregory Rousseau.

My hot take is that it'll actually be money better spent than the $123.7MM they handed out to Chris Jones for his age 30-33 seasons. Just look at the last two season totals:

Sacks:
Chris Jones: 17.0
George Karlaftis: 25.5

Tackles:
Jones: 80
Karlaftis: 114

Tackles for Loss:
Jones: 23
Karlaftis: 23

And that includes Jones' 1 year deal before the new contract.

I'm not going to go as far as saying that Karlaftis is better than Jones at this point, but I wouldn't be surprised if Karlaftis' age 24-27 season is a better value at 75% of the cost of Jones' are 30-33 season
Time will tell. I'm going to bet Karlaftis' numbers will continue to be pegged to Jones' performance. He's the alpha dog there. Everyone else eats because of him.

Small sample size, but in 2023 when Jones held out of Game 1 vs Detroit, then only played 50% of the snaps in Week 2, Furious George had:

Week 1: 7 Tackles (3 solo, 4 ast), 1 Pass Defended, 1 TFL
Week 2: 1.5 Sacks, 4 Tackles, 1 TFL, 2 QB Hits

and in 2024 when Jones was out Week 17 vs Pitt:

Week 17: 1 Sack, 1 TFL, 2 Tackles, 2 QB hits, 1 Pass Defended

Just 3 games, but he's been pretty effective without Jones around.

"Furious George". That's a thing now apparently.

tj trying to justify "Furious George's" worth with week 17 stats is peak comedy.

I am seeing NFL might be buying 10% of ESPN. That will make for some real honest reporting. And of course, all the "debate" shows would have non stop made up content about NFL.

Bucs won’t allow 450+ pound undrafted rookie Desmond Watson to practice until he gets in better shape.

Don’t blame them especially with this weekends heat dome stuff. Heat index supposed to be up to 110 in Tampa.

Good for him for losing weight though. Wonder what the ideal weight they want for him.

Vita Vea's 6 ft 4 in, around 365 lbs, and this kid's 6 ft 6 in so I'm thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 385-390

It's crazy to think a guy this large (weighed in at 464 pounds on his pro day) ran the 40-yard dash in 5.86 seconds, in addition to recording a vertical jump of 25 inches

So he needs to shed about 50 lbs more? Doable but how long will that take. Sounds like he won’t be ready for start of season. He’s an interesting pick for sure. Let’s see if he’s motivated.

Let’s see his vertical/40 after he loses 80 lbs.

It's literally been his nickname for years and listed on his Pro-football-reference page.

https://www.pro-football-reference.c...K/KarlGe00.htm

And yeah, I'm using Week 17, Week 1, and Week 2 performance to justify his play. As well as his career playoff stats of

8 Sacks
8 TFLs
16 QB hits
36 Tackles (21 solo)

in 10 games. Glad you can get a laugh while being educated.

Pleasantly surprised that there was no discussion here about the fake/staged photographer falling into Lake Erie during the Browns helmet reveal.

That's a win-win for everybody.

You definitely wake up every morning and look in the mirror and say "I'm never wrong."

Chris Jones makes everyone on that defense better. Just own it.

And you definitely are the person who reads the headlines and posts a reaction without ever reading the article to understand the context. (being that I never said that Chris Jones didn't make him better... just that he's played well in Jones' absence.)

Because I could be wrong. And as a matter of fact, I consider one of my personal strengths the fact that I can acknowledge when I'm wrong and course correct (like when I PC'd Ben Simmons, then sold it all during summer workout video hype to load up on more Patrick Mahomes back in Summer 2020).

And again. I'm not saying that George Karlaftis is going to the HOF, or even that he's better than Chris Jones (he's not).

I'm just backing my case that in the history of horrible contracts, handing out one that pays him to be the 10th-~15th highest paid edge rusher over his age 24-27 seasons doesn't look like one of the worst going into it. This isn't Daniel Jones getting $40MM a year or Deshaun Watson getting $240MM guaranteed. It's a fair market deal.

I’d love to hear your self perceived weaknesses. Top three list probably includes kryptonite.

I'll keep that between me and my professional performance coach. She's paid well so I don't need to solicit unprofessional advice.

But I'll give you one: I spend too much time arguing with mouth-breathers on Blowout (Not you. I'm sure you can think of a few. I actually appreciate 85% of the banter here.)

What? Help me understand the context of the bolded please. Did I misquote something about Furious George?

I just know a good supporting actor when I see one. Put him on any other team that has a hole in the middle of the defense and I would bet George would not be as prosperous as he is playing for the Chiefs.

Calls others on Blowout mouth breathers AND does exactly that towards others.

Solid.

"Chris Jones makes everyone on that defense better. Just own it."

Because you attempted to twist my words and infer that I said that Jones doesn't make people around him better.

All I was doing was proving the point that Karlaftis has played well without Jones in the lineup as well as with him in the line up.

Now I ask that you help me understand: What's so preposterous about using Week 17 of the 2024 NFL season performance as a data point (I had already pointed out that it was a small sample size)?
