I know I was gone for a hot minute… but how awful is USC? And they aren’t going to get better

Teams like Minnesota just shoving them around like it’s nothing in the B10

I have been shocked at how bad they played this year. They are always a sleeping giant though. Riley needs to get his house in order and start recruiting like a madman. USC is a premium school to go to. Riley did really well at Oklahoma. I get the Big Twelve, no defense league, is not the Big Ten. Fall off has been dramatic this year. They are 13th in recruiting this year, 4th in big ten. Facing some probation headwinds though. Feel like this is a school that can be in the big ten mix every year with the right coach.

Yeah, he needs to prove he can recruit for the Big Ten style of games. My point was more of USC itself. It is a program that can go from their record today to National Championship contenders in just a couple of years with the right coach. It isn't like Indiana, MSU, or whatever where you are battling money, facilities, and institutional losing history. If OSU got a bad coach and slipped to the bottom of the big ten one year, I would expect them to rebound quickly with the right coach. MSU loses Dantonio and it takes years to try to climb that mountain again.

Looking at the top of the ACC. How the heck is it that three top teams SMU, Clemson, and Miami don't even play each other? That is crazy scheduling. The next best team - Louisville - played all three. Lost to SMU and Miami and beat Clemson. Hard to tell anything with those teams. I can see no matter how this shakes out, it would be hard to put a 2 loss ACC team as one of the final 12.

If each of those top-3 wins out their conference games - which is certainly a big IF because upsets happen but hypothetically speaking - then it is the Louisville games which will give Miami the ACCCCG nod over Clemson because, as you mention, Louisville is a common opponent where Miami won and Clemson lost.

Theyve been competitive in all their losses. Actually in all losses led at some point in the 4th quarter. 3 games lost when they gave up a TD in the last minute.
