3,000 hits? For the 34 year old with only 2,237 so far. His current 162-game career average is 181 hits, which would require him to play four full seasons at that pace and then would reach 3,000 sometime in his age 39 season????

Russell Martin to Dodgers along with cash for two minor leagers.

I'm a little confused with what the Dodgers are attempting to do currently. Obviously they want one of the big fish ,but they have traded away some decent pieces.

I think Martin is essentially a mentor for guys like Ruiz and Smith. Can’t see him being a legitimate option at this point in his career.

I assume the Dodgers think one of the young catchers will be ready to call up at some point this year.

Russell Martin is a one year stop gap, until Ruiz and or Smith are ready. Realmuto is not a reality. Dodgers will not sign a big ticket freeagent. Bet on it.

A mystery team is now involved for Machado.

I believe it’s his agent B.S.ing. Trying to get more out of Philadelphia & Chicago now that the Yankees are out.

100% correct. And there is more talk coming out that the Yankees were never really "in" on it, just did their proper homework.

Reality is starting to set in that Manny isn't going to get the $300M he wants, so now the posturing has to start, the rumors will fly.

I don't know why anyone would give a guy like Machado a deal worth $300 million. He admittedly is not committed to his craft. Seeing guys with talent like that be as lazy as he is is very frustrating and not someone I would want as a leader in my clubhouse.

Exactly. Somebody is going to overpay ,but not for the amount he is hoping for.

I'm no fan of Machado but if I were GM of ANY team in MLB and I could get Machado for something like 8yrs/$250M, I'd do it in a hearbeat. Judging by opinions on here, I guess I'm in a small minority that doesn't think 300M is an overpay, massive commitment that it is.

I’m betting as Machados price continues to fall, teams interested will increase, so I don’t think it’s all a ruse by his agent.

Phillies, White Sox and Yankees I think all are still very much alive. Tulo and LeMahieu aren’t names that will deter them from getting a superstar if his price becomes reasonable. I can also see LA being in the mix as his price tumbles

I can definitely see the Dodgers getting back into the mix for Manny if the dollars/years fall into their range. Also puts Manny’s ego on spotlight in a huge Market.
Kind of a win win scenario for both parties.

Fake news.

11:53pm: In a contrasting report, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports (Twitter link) that the White Sox haven’t increased their original seven-year offer to Machado.

You're really going to trust Bob Nightengale over Jeff Passan? C'mon man.

Conflicting reports. That is all I'm saying.

The White Sox have never offered more than six years for any player.

I wont believe it unless he signs it.

I'm sure his agent will have a few mystery teams that will get involved out of nowhere as well. lol

Speculation on Bryce and Manny is just that at this point.

Of course you would say that, if it was the other way you would have asked if he was going to trust Passan over Nightengale. Your homerism is the highest on BO.

And his performance in the World Series should scare away any sane gm.
