Where are all these people? Lol I mean obv the goal is Bedard but I’ve watched a few breaks now and none pulled Bedard and no one seemed particularly bummed out. Even the breaks posted here in the breaks section have minimal Bedard and people seemed pretty satisfied. Feels like a lot of outside noise the “Bedard or bust” narrative. This rookie class has actually aged fairly well (so far) so I’ve seen a few guys people are happy pulling from this besides him.

I think the 23-24 Cup is the best in years, because the rookie class is very solid beyond Bedard and UD has remembered what case hits look like. The floor seems like it's $3-4k and a pretty decent % of cases hit the original price of $6000 per case. At the current price much less value of course. They've especially done well by making the secondary sets like Enshrinement, White/Black etc of even star players be no more than secondary case hits not primary ones

You worded it better than me lol I def can see those who went for a home run spending the high buy-in for breaks unhappy not getting Chicago or ESPECIALLY hitting Chicago and getting no Bedard but it seems like a solid break giving what I’ve seen and even attitude toward the product. Also have to factor in while expensive it came out so late it ended up being A LOT lower than expected which also helps as people thought this would be $1000+ more before his YG was even out.

Agree, it's a 1/1 so who cares about the card grade. It is what it is. If it was anything less than a 10 it would trigger some twitchy collectors, but now they at least have to live in reality with the rest of us and appreciate the card for its primary attribute -- its scarcity/uniqueness.

Has anyone been following how the RPA's have been showing up online? I noticed a lot of Bedard RPA's out of Canada on Ebay, occasional from China, but very little US sellers on the Bedard /99.

Fantilli has been slim pickings on RPAs available on Ebay. Strangely a few of the Golds showed up early on, and now a few RPAs /99 are running

People bummed about not pulling Bedard are likely bummed because he's the only player they know.

Bedard has top talent potential, but not sure his career surpasses Brayden Point in the end.

Some of these prices are absurd. The hype train is still on the tracks, for now

This season, and realistically the first 30 games will need to look more like the projection or the hype will finally lose its shine. It's certainly slowed from year 1 to now, but lots of folks holding out hope (including me as a Blackhawks fan not a bag holder).

Nathan MacKinnon won the Calder with 60 points and was a 50 point player for three years after that, and was on a bad team like Bedard is now. People were probably on here writing him off too.

Bedard will be fine and all these doom and gloom takes will probably look foolish in a few years. Not everybody gets a fairy tale start and there are only so many Crosby and McDavid types in a generation.

People were definitely on and off here writing MacKinnon off as a bust pre Stanley Cup run.

Pretty sure you can find some interesting MacKinnon threads in the BST Forum.

Think Alex Lafranierre #1 pick bust level and that's where we were...

I remember MacKinnon YGs selling for 30Cad one summer. Lafrenière YGs went from like 200Cad to 20Cad. I am nearly tempted to buy one at these prices.

MacKinnon and Bedard are different players. Bedard is a good passer and has a potentially wicked shot (needs to shoot more as well as learn when to shoot). MacKinnon can pass and shoot very well, but has elite skating ability and some size. MacKinnon is more a complete package hockey player, Bedard leans more toward one-trick-wonder. The fact Bedard hasn't completely translated his trick to the NHL and/or he hasn't adjusted (yet) isn't a great omen, no matter the spin put on it. Any younger player can recover and have good careers, many have. But most of the GOATs looked the part even if they weren't dominating the league for a few years. I'm just not seeing generational when I watch Bedard right now.

His YG PSA 10 was above $1000 and is now barely fetching $400. Hype is definitely losing its luster. And it should, in reality when an athlete underperforms their collectibles should drop in price.

His team is so bad, and his style of play doesnt lend itself to fully carrying the load himself. He can easily be a 50 goal scorer with a little help.

That's purely speculation though. Outside of a few highlight reel moves/passes, Bedard isn't visibly a 30 goal scorer.

said it in the Bedard specific topic on here but Chicago was the worst place he could have been drafted. Literally THE guy on the team at 18. Not even Crosby and McDavid had to be that. They were all insulated with good players around them.

Last years Chicago team was honestly the worst of the cap era. Find me a worse roster. and this past seasons wasnt much better.

Imagine he had been drafted by Montreal and got to play behind Suzuki and have guys like Caufield and others to take pressure away from him? He's had to face every teams 1st line centre and top defensive pairing since his rookie game. It's REALLY hard to do that as you're coming into the league.

Even Anaheim (the other team that had a decent shot at getting him) would have put him with Zegras, McTavish, etc. Chicago had NO ONE.

He needs help badly.

Would of liked to see the Blackhawks add someone like Martone to play on Bedards wing, not someone like Fondell who you have to wait atleast a year to come over. That just tells me the Blackhawks are banking on tanking and getting McKenna. That could mean Bedard becomes a full-time winger if you have McKenna and Fondell down the middle.

His pop count on that card is insane, over twice that of McDavid’s PSA 10 and it’s only been in circulation for a couple of years. UD is printing themselves into a junk YG era.

Isn't that more of an indicator of the popularity of the wax with kids like Bedard showing up and driving box prices and product hype? They weren't passing out Bedard YGs like candy it was still one MAYBE two per case.

Personally I see this as a good thing. I love watching the sport and would like to see the cards do a little better in the market in general. As an LCS owner who lists on Ebay hockey does the WORST out of all sports in terms of singles. Most autographs going for pennies on the dollar and if you don't pull the product chase YG the box was most likely a bust. We opened our allocation of The Cup this year and aside from one decent RPA(Faber) the rest were just paperweights.

There's also still a lot of unopened boxes, buyers hedging a bet on Bedard being huge. If McDavid fetches $2500 for his PSA 10 YG, what would Bedard need to do as a player with twice (eventually 3 times) as many PSA 10 YGs to come anywhere near that market value?

I suppose having a bazillion PSA 10 YG of the best players would mean they sell for cheaper, but we don't have to operate in a vacuum to see how the late 80s and early 90s cards faired when print count met and exceeded demand. I don't see the junk wax era as a good thing, part of the collectability of a card is in its uniqueness. If a hundred million exist and there's only 100,000 people looking to own one, then it really isn't unique. Your own example of the Cup resale values being poor demonstrates this point -- the demand is low even when the card count is low. There's too much of everything. aka 'junk wax'

No one wants to see their $1000 evaporate into $100. If they say they welcome that, they're lying.
