It all depends on the number of hits per box. You already stated that there are 88k #'d cards in Megas vs 55k in Premium. But in Premium you're getting 7 per box, what if Megas are like 1 per box? That would place the print run at 88k boxes vs 7k Premium boxes. Is the 2.6x price difference still prohibitive then? Keep in mind, that when we were looking at retail products earlier this year like Optic and Select, the absolute best products were Select Target Megas which were $60 for 40 cards, and a 75% chance at a single numbered card. So one hit per box in Megas would still put it at one of the greatest products of the year (hit rate wise) and still be way worse than the $130 Premium box.

To me, it's basically a box of Choice which normally run $300 for only $130

You're right, we definitely need to see a break. HOWEVER - I've never seen so many SKU specific numbered cards like this product has. Nothing close to it. This leads me to believe Megas will be way more than 1 numbered per box. Just an educated guess hunch from the numbers they've given us and what we've seen so far.

While writing Edit: without editing the above paragraph, a thought hit me. I think Megas will have regular base vs. the base cards in premiums being Scope. So this takes a little value away from Megas. But the box on Megas say 18 prizms per box out of 50 cards. That's a lot and safe to say a few are numbered with the sheer amount of Mega exclusive numbered cards.

It's almost as if they swapped the Premium Stock complete set for the Premium Box this year. The set had pulsar base cards, similar to scope premiumbase this year, and the 5 colored pulsars to /50-ish vs. the 8 to /88 max this year.

Lets not forget that this is Hoops Premium Stock lol. This isn't Prizm, Optic, Topps Chrome, Bowman, etc. I think these are priced right and I wouldn't pay over retail for them.

These are a bloodbath at that price. None will sell at that. Very optimistic sellers there, IMO. And I bought some, so not just bashing because I missed lol.
Difference is you might get 1, at best 2 numbered cards out of mega boxes. You're getting 7-8 out of the premium boxes.

Also, the premium wemby is a $60-100 card, whereas the base chrome version will be $10.

I'll take the premium over the megas anytime, at least thus far.

We defiinitely need to see some megas opened to get a good idea.

If megas have 2-3 numbered per box, then you may be right. Panini has never done that before tho.

The /88 Curry is on ebay for only $20 OBO and thats one of the better names.

I threw out a $7 offer on the Curry /88 for shits and giggles. Lo and behold, it was accepted lol.

19-20 HPS had Tmall and Hybrid Hobby exclusives. The Tmall/Asia boxes had all shimmer base and 2 Numbered parallels. Hobby had flash base and also 2 numbered per box. Those were only 24 cards in a box.

Premium boxes are selling for $250-$300 on ebay. Pretty nice turn around for those who were able to pick them up.

Again, I bought these so not knocking because I missed:

These are a bloodbath at those prices. Who are these people.

I'll be the first to admit that I underestimated how well these would do on the secondary market (at least initially). I still expect them to come down in price as more become available and/or resale of singles come down, but it's still a nice and easy 1.5-2x (post-fees).

Quick shout out to Spacemanspif for trying to convince me to buy, didn't have the same foresight as you. Easy $2k profit on max (two 12 box) orders.

You can download the checklist in excel from the Panini website.

Am I missing something? The premium boxes have 6-8 numbered per box and have chances at Wemby Tiger/Nebulas. Just doing quick math and it's super short printed compared to any other Panini basketball offerings. Is this just being down on HPS due to the 2020 set?

I think the set looks good and I would much rather have this design than Select/Mosaic/Flux/Contenders Optic (and much cheaper too!)

The only thing that sucks is the auto checklist which does not feature big vet names. The best vets are Paolo/Chet

From what Bob Ross was theorizing earlier, it sounds like the older Premium Stock complete set was swapped into the Premium Box for this year, which is why it is limited. Not sure what this means for how limited the Megas/Blasters will be or how many hits they will have for that matter.

It's not so much about the actual 2019-20 HPS set as it is about the HPS (or PS) brand. We learned from the original set that many don't care for the HPS (or PS) brand, and that was even before the overprinting matter became an issue.

Outside of Wemby and a select few, singles won't do well over time. Also, one should expect more variations to come out (watering it down some).

Personally, I like the card design. I also liked the 2019-20 design over some other Chrome-based brands. With that said, it generally doesn't matter if a set looks good (rare exception like Photographic but the card stock was "nice" too), a number of sets look better than Select/Optic/Prizm yet aren't demanded/valued as much (especially compared to Prizm).

With that said, can't deny the easy money. It's a great opportunity to flip sealed wax now and/or upon receipt while hyped, then pick-up quality wax/singles (with the gains).
