With the way UD is handling the Marvel license, do you doubt that FUN is on the way? /sarcasm

Default 2024 Upper Deck Fleer Ultra Marvel Wolverine

Ha FUN set…yea I’m not putting anything past UD.

That is a true point about the Wolverine and Spider-Man being asymmetrical situations since Wolvie has always been looked at as more of a team character.

Personally I want a FUFF set (Fleer Ultra Fantastic Four)….there actually is a whole big ol universe to utilize with that. And one that hasn’t been used as much to this point with the previous ban. No need to do repeats etc in that set.

Now that UD has the DC license, we may finally get my dream Fleer Ultra Clark Kent set. Not too many sets focus on the civilian identities of the heroes and outside of maybe Bruce Wayne and Peter Parker, Clark Kent is the greatest.

I was literally just scouring for any marvel character that was CK, and no dice. Never thought to branch out to DC. Well played..well played.

I'm very interested in this hypothetical daydream release!

Totally see this as a near-future subset...

I hope to see a DC Platinum and a Batman Metal Universe soon

I like this idea. For an original art set like FU, have every artist do a different rendition of Wolverine. Or, if it's a comic book art set, have Wolverine artwork from several artists. Let collectors choose their favorites.

Just saying I like to see one true base of a character, even the title character of a set like this. It’s been done before: in 1995 Fleer Ultra Spider-man there was one “Spider-Man” card in that whole 150 card base set, card #1. Sure, some others in that set came close like a Spider-Clone card, and a card that pictured just Spidey but titled “Power and Responsibility” and another one of just Parker “Origin of Spiderman”…but there was only one regular Spider-Man base. There are other ways to have a lot of different versions of the title character in art, you can have various battles/teamup/milestone subset cards etc, and still stick to one regular base. Pretty sure 2017 FUSM had just one regular Spidey base also but would have to check. 1996 FUXM did have multiple Wolverines.

I can see someone wanting multiple regular Wolverine base. I can also see someone pulling a /5 or /10 Wolverine preferring if it wasn’t as diluted. I thought there was a little pushback in Spidey Metal Universe having no less than 4 Spiderman base cards (strict Spider-Man)….meaning 4 versions of red and green PMGs etc. Maybe not and I’m one of the only ones who takes this stance. Which is fine….is a subjective preference. I’d be curious if you’d be ok with like 25 of the 100 being Wolverine base cards…or 50, since it is after all titled Fleer Ultra Wolverine.

Edit: I admit the subject being Wolverine does make it so maybe there aren’t enough extra characters to use as base in his ‘universe’ without making it into just another X-men set. Like besides some of the characters in the Japan stories, and his classic foes, if they start loading it up with all the x-men like Gambit, Jean, Cyclops, Rogue, Storm, Iceman, Prof X etc it kind of becomes another Fleer Ultra X-men set, and I get they are trying to avoid that. In that sense I guess it makes sense for multiple wolverines.
I think for an original art set painted or drawn solely by one artist, it makes sense to have only one base card for each character. But if it's a set made by several artists, I like the idea of having multiple artists depicting the main character.

Once again, it looks like pack odds printed on hobby and blasters boxes are a little bit messy. For example, blaster boxes make no mention of Green Foil parallels for base cards or select inserts.

You can pull 3x3's, Aliases, Family Genealogy, Greatest Battles, Jambalaya, Medallions, Fleer Ultra Pop Culture, Team Affiliations, Ultra Stars, Ultrabilities, and X-23 from blaster packs. But the box only gives odds for Fleer Ultra Pop Culture - Regular (1:18), SP (1:36, SSP (1:144), Medallions (1:3), Ultrabilities (1:18), 3x3's (1:24), Family Genealogy (1:24), Ultra Stars (1:3), Ultra Stars Gold (1:576), and Jambalaya (1:576).

Aliases, Greatest Battles, Team Affiliations, and X-23 have blaster exclusive Yellow Foil parallel cards #'d to 90 and that's all that's printed on the box. Beckett has odds for the base inserts: Aliases (1:3), Greatest Battles (1:4.5), Team Affiliations (1:5), X-23 (1:5).

Also, Ultra Stars are apparently only available in blaster boxes while the Ultra Stars Gold Foil parallel cards are supposedly in blasters, hobby, and on e-Pack. But the odds printed on hobby boxes lump Gold Foil in with a bunch of other inserts like Essential Credentials, Artist Autographs, Jambalaya, and Animation Cels at 1:12 packs. And there's no mention of Ultra Stars Gold Foil cards at all.

Finally, there's this: Original Art Sketch cards and Printing Plates - N/A. I wonder what that's supposed to mean.

Hobby Odds:

Blaster Odds:

Default 2024 Upper Deck Fleer Ultra Marvel Wolverine

Some of those numbers already slightly different from what’s given on Beckett checklist.

For example Top secret is listed on box as 1:102, not 1:96. That nudges the hobby print run up slightly from 36,700 boxes to about 40k boxes (again assuming top secret only in hobby).

I did notice the retail blaster makes no mention of how frequently the yellows fall…just /90. Based on the above post from the person following breaks, it seems they didn’t make a ton of blasters of this. (Well probably not much more than 10k).

I have no idea what sketch - N/A means. Anyone see if these sketches fall one or two per hobby case or so?

Looks like the chatter has died down on this release -- too much speculation on the print run and not enough discussion on the cards themselves. Here's a unique video from Spidey Hits on YouTube -- he opens a box of FUW with Josh Jung, the 3B for the Texas Rangers: https://youtu.be/gyCKmha9Mfk?si=vKKMqpqC1lo6qzbd

Jung says in the video that 1B coach of the Rangers, Corey Ragsdale, is a big collector of Marvel cards. It's good to see there are avid Marvel card collectors out there, even in the big leagues.

Opened my third box of this yesterday. It had a gold medallion, platinum medallion, animation cel, and a top secret mini it. First box I’ve seen with 2 numbered medallions in it. The gold and platinum are visually my favorite medallions.

The top secret minis, I’m pretty confident at this point is pretty indicative of the hobby box print run more than any other factor, which you mentioned earlier. Beckett has also neglected to even report the /74 parallels for all the inserts which have /181, /25, etc.. parallels. Pretty big thing to leave absent on the checklist….

Fwiw, none of the normal sites have even corrected the Platinum checklist errors. Seems like they all try and be the first to list them, but do not maintain them.
