Giannis, AD, Kyrie. But, that will not happen. Giannis is a Spur.

One more to pique the notion of feeding big markets. Maybe why Pop refused to send Kawhi there AND complained about the Gasol trade

Someone suggested a possible: AD for PG, #3 pick, 2028 unprotected LAC pick, future 76ers pick. It's an interesting thought. Esp as the Clips might really suck in 3 years.
It would also give the Mavs a ton of add'tl draft capital to go get Giannis, in addition to pkg a couple of guys like PJ Washington to make salaries match.

Mavs said they want Flagg and aren't looking to trade the pick.
I don't get why teams limit themselves like this. Just say you're looking for the best way to improve your franchise and at least field offers for the #1 pick. Maybe some team will give you a godfather offer. You can always say no.

Didn't Nico just trade the future to "win now"? His window dies with AD unless he turns AD into something better as well. He will always be the dude who killed a fandom unless he strings together a few years of dominance IMO.

To start a team, I'd take Flagg and his rookie contract over Giannis and his $52M-$60M annual salary, but the Mavs are in win-now mode. Would the Bucks be willing to throw any more into the deal? Giannis + role players/expiring contracts/draft picks? You don't know if you aren't taking offers. If you're the GM, you say you're not taking offers because you're lazy or incompetent. Maybe both. If I heard the GM of my team talk like that, I would be pretty frustrated.

Bill Simmons made a great point -
Cooper Flagg can regain HOPE in the Mavs fanbase.

Fakers/Jazz/Wizz maximalists down bad.
Dallas mortgages the farm for Glass Joe. Everyone claims the most lopsided trade since Griner for Merchant of Death. Yet both squads get trounced early. And Nico gets gifted the next Great Blanco Hope successor. While I respect the Spurs fanbase, they have absolutely no say in 'rigged' or 'favorable' draft rigging Stifle theories. IIRC, Spurs have either stayed the same or moved up in EVERY draft they've been in, and moved up in every scenario where they're a projected top 8 pick. Got Slemby last year, now get a free shot at Harper . Insane. Conversely, the Mavs have NEVER moved up in their team's history. This 1/50 scenario, while quite unlikely, isn't some astronomical event, and especially when you take into consideration how many times they've been stumped in the past. Seems more like a regression to the mean. You break enough hobby cases and you're bound to eventually strike a Nebula. In any event, looking forward to the revised lineup with gentrified Tatum and a hopefully healthy flat earther. M4L.

![]() And Castle last year at 4 where they finished with the 5th worst record wasn't a stretch. So I may regress from "rigged" but the results are strangely convenient. Undeniably, bet on it convenient. Especially for the situation the Mavs found themselves in to re-engage an estranged fanbase after gifting a storied franchise a new lung. Everybody wins. Even remembering Lebron's vacation to Miami. Cavs got like 3/4 #1s? It does beg the question because who has hit like that, after losing a superstar, which is where the scrutiny lies. |

Firstly, I appreciate your self awareness and candor. Salute. And if it's any Texas team that I not-so-openly support, it's the Spurs. Classy organization that deserves everything good that has and continues to come its way. The optics definitely couldn't have been worse. And we all know corruption exists and has already been exposed throughout the NBA's history. However, there are certain control measures that would make some giant draft lottery collusion theory quite difficult. There are 14 prominent members of the NBA media present during the drawing (several household names). They are accompanied by a matching amount of team representatives, all sitting with a watchful eye praying their ball doesn't get drawn early. So essentially, it would take 28 separate individuals, along with the staked reputation of one of the largest domestic accounting agencies in existence...to all be in unison with some grand orchestrated Gollum scheme to gift ONE undeserving franchise with a pick...strictly off the strength of somehow salvaging the league whilst simultaneously screwing over 13 other squads on the possibility of acquiring a franchise transforming talent....just cuz they want to help rectify the wrongs of a lopsided trade that they were not even a part of. Now I don't know how many GM's would be particularly keen on this voluntary sacrifice, as a great majority of them spent their entire season intentionally tanking and conceding revenue all in the hopes of having the best odds of landing a generational talent. I'm also fairly certain the players and players union wouldn't take well to such an inside yet not so inside secret. Is it possible? Sure. Anything in life is possible. Is it likely? Probably not.
