So, what’s the issue exactly?

If you were to list it as a 7-day auction on Sunday afternoon/evening, and include photos of each corner (front and back), you should be just fine. If it has any major blemishes, then of course disclose them. And just mail it Priority.

The issue is that he wants $20k for it (or something close). He won’t get that at a 7-day eBay auction.

Yup. There's zero chance someone pays anywhere near that. He has two people in this thread offering him 3k and doesn't want to auction it. I'll never understand why you wouldn't want a bidding war for a card this important(of the player) and scarce and one in which you have no idea what you should be accepting an offer at

Don't over think this. Get it graded. Get it auctioned. Make those guys knowingly competing against each other, now! He said he doesn't know what he's doing...so get it to someone that does.
This is the best advice OP. It's a bit unfortunate you didn't heed it.

As the header says....OP is in over his head. Hoped for a job quitting amount, likely to get a nice vacation amount. Once he gets that disappointment set aside he will figure it out.

Morel’s war is in fact at 2.6, but he hasn’t even played 180 games yet, either. To put it in comparison to what you may know. Corbin Carroll has 40 games in hand over Morel, with only 9 more doubles, 4 more homers, and 7 rbi. I’m not saying he is the same guy. I’m just saying you might want to zoom out a little for a bigger picture.

While I agree 20k asking price is absurd there’s def a non zero % chance someone pays 5 figures for this. Should they if course not but I’ve def seen it happen in simarly valuable cards

Not in August and not for a 24 year old, non-hyped prospect, who's probably the 4th most recognizable guy on the team. He's got a way better chance of that happening with two people bidding than him sitting there taking offers.

Some quick examples of payouts based on an arbitrary sale amount over $5,000 that I picked -- $6,600

---------------------
Goldin:
https://goldin.co/faq

If it goes for $5k or more with Goldin, that says 108% to the seller.

$5500 hammer price + 20% buyer premium ($1,100) = $6,600 sale price.

108% of $5500 = $5940 to the seller. 90% of the final cost to the buyer is going to the seller.

They're calling hammer price as 'sale price' and adding buyer's premium onto sale price. I think that's a little confusing, but that seems to be standard terminology. No one is actually getting a card for the "sale price. It is where the bidding ends, but it's not the final price the buyer will pay for the card.

---------------------
Ebay:
ebay fees on trading cards says: 13.25% up to $7,500 (smaller % after 7500, not applicable to this example) Some sellers have slightly lower fees.

Same $6,600 price as above. 13.25% = $874.50. = $5725.50 to the seller. Ebay fee is applied to the shipping amount charged (pretty certain) and for some states I think they also can count the sales tax and apply the ebay fee after sales tax (I forget how that works exactly, but I recall two identical sale amounts where the fee was different, and I think it had to do with the buyer state being different)

---------------------
PC Sportscards (ebay):
https://pcsportscards.com/consignment

$5k-9999.99 = 92% payout.

92% of the same $6,600 sale would be $6,072.

---------------------
dcsports87 (ebay):
https://dcsports87.com/how-process-works

$5k+, 97% minus $300 per listing.

97% of $6,600 = $6,402 - $300 = $6,102

97% of $6,300 (take the $300 off first) = $6,111 (I think it's the first one, but just comparing logic)

---------------------

Ebay consignment sellers move a lot of volume, and therefore have a lot of different buyers. Ebay buyers (like myself) tend to click "See other items" and search/browse by player or team or sport or year or anything really. Some consignment sellers send out communications via email, IG, etc, and may show some cards coming up for sale, currently listed, or ending soon. This also reaches potential buyers.

Good luck!

(if anyone sees any errors above please let me know and I will correct)
I don't know why, after this post, and literally every other post made, OP still put it up on ebay for $20k

Also, $5k is nothing to sneeze at. Some of you it's nothing, but heck that's a good chunk of money. Downpayment on a new car, vacation paid for, etc.

That said, I am with everybody else saying this is at most a $5k card and why you wouldn't sent it to consigner immediately to auction off is beyond me. The faster this gets auctioned, the better.

And the fastest way to auction it would be to auction it himself. It appears he has an Ebay store so the final selling fee should be limited.

For a card like that, I have no problem listing it for about 24 hours as a BIN with best offer.... at a reasonable amount. Probably half of what it is listed at. Then after that, let the auction begin!

**Edited to add... I would probably have more than just one pic and might be wise to wipe off all the hairs.

Because he wasn’t *genuinely* asking for advice? A single post recommended that, many recommended against, and everyone else recommended another avenue. Go figure

Your life certainly woulda been a lot easier had you had the card before the national.

Ah well. It'll work itself out. And work out well. It will just take a little more work to make it work.

It’s amazing how many people think we are stupid and do this. Why anyone would then send that shady person a substantial amount of money is beyond me.

Usually I just ask: Should I submit my offer via PM or in the thread directly?

Just curious, what position is he going to settle in at?

I was looking at box scores and noticed he is DHing tonight. This would be game 26 he's dh'ed. 18 times he's played second and 11 times in center. Being able to play multiple positions is great baseball wise. Not great hobby wise. And the two positions he's playing the most are not good hobby positions. Been discussed in the Ozzie Albies thread, second basemen just don't get a lot of hobby love. Same with DH when you're starting a career
