Seems cool enough, but probably priced 30-50% higher than it should be. I could see maybe $250-300 I guess.
With the large checklist I can see some of these non- star/rc encased cards making their way into some cheap bargain boxes in AC for the National. That's a very bulky case for a quarter/fiddy cent box. It will line up well with the boxes of $1 Arozarena flagship 9s.
Lotta cheap heavy plastic will be hauled in this year.

Finally got all of my cards scanned and listed over the weekend. Here was the big pull form my case.

Was able to get one more case before the jump, should have it tomorrow.. I doubt I will, but would be even cooler to top this one!

There are now a bunch of Witt auto redemptions on eBay. And there's also now one JRod auto redemption auto. It stinks that they are both redemptions for me. As a sealed collector, going to have to take a pass on this release.

Me too ( sealed Collector ) - your post here is the 1st time I’m hearing that J-ROD auto RC is a redemption- there is no mention of any autos being redemption in product info on several sites including CardboardConnection and Beckett.

Do companies ever release auto cards both ways - in packs and redemption, or is it always either all in packs or all redemption for a given card like this?

Gimmicky no doubt, but trash??? I think these are the best looking cards we've seen in a very long time, specifically the encased pulsar refractors. I wouldn't mind at all if more people agreed with you, means cheaper singles for me!

I don't think there is usually good info on those sites related to checklists and which specific autos are redemptions. There should be; it is good info for us sealed collectors.

It's not just JROD; it's both him and Witt that are both redemption autos. At least Wander autos seem to be live in this so that is good but it's still a bummer that the other two key guys are redemption. This seems to be more of the type of release where the autos are key. In something like flagship, it's not as dependent on autos given all the key base parallels you can pull, so not as worried usually on flagship stuff (still hope JRod and Witt have live autos in Update though!).

I think for a given specific card, you can usually expect it to be that way for all of that card. May be exceptions but that is usually the norm. Where there can be differences more is where you have different auto cards for a player. That is where you will sometimes see some live (say an unnumbered auto) and some as redemption (say a limited numbered parallel auto). Maybe that could still be the case with JRod as I only see one auto up on eBay. But, Witt has a ton of different auto versions up on eBay now and those are all redemption.

It happens in Bowman every once in awhile--usually where the color autos are inserted in the product, and the base are not (or vice versa)..the most prominent recent example of that is Jordan Walker in 2020 Bowman Draft: his color autos were "live", but the base were redemptions...

Indeed. Possibly less prominent but Cal Raleigh's rookie autos in 2022 Bowman are the same way - color live, base redemptions. I've got 100 cases' worth of them here or on my open redemptions list...

Even if those sites noted the redemptions it's too early for them to know anything for this product. The only reliable way to identify redemptions is to watch breaks or just wait to hear about it.

That's right. I just go on YouTube and search for the release, the player's name, and "auto" and it's usually pretty easy to find a specific break where that auto is pulled and you can see if a redemption or live. Obviously helps if it's an older product and there's more time for the specific card to have been pulled.

No rush either way on these though, right? I'd have to think that short of JRod 2nd half moving into MVP consideration these will be available cheaper by National and then again cheaper when TC releases. Or do we think the PR and busting demand is strong enough for most of this to get busted before then?

I never understood redemptions - collectors don’t like them because you have to go thru a process and wait to get the card, and on the Company side of things / seems like it would be a big pain in the neck to admin, not to mention the amount of time their employees have to spend. Just seems like it would be better for everyone to put the damn card in the pack at the time of production

I'm sure they'd agree with you, and if the printers could get the cards printed in time, and the athletes sign and return them in time, that's what they'd do. Unfortunately, that doesn't always happen. And they'd rather deal with the pain in the neck than release their product without any autos from [insert major star or big-time prospect, etc., here].
