no apologies necessary. I was kidding. But, seriously it seems that some of these fakes must be pretty good. Cause I cant tell. It seems that if its not in a Beckett holder, everyone just says its fake. Could there be a chance that one of these ungraded cards is the real deal?

I wouldn't buy a Star 101 ungraded. I'm just not experienced enough.

Ok Ive been doing some snooping. The consensus is the 86 Fleer Jordan has more fakes than the Jordan Star. But I notice that collectors can identify the real vs the fake 86 fleers and are bought raw and later graded. Why doesnt this apply to the star card? Is the 86 fleer easier to spot the fakes? If the Star card is less faked than the 86 fleer. Does it makes sense that there has to be some ungraded Star cards floating around out there that are real? I know everyones logic is "well if its not graded then it cant be real, cause nobody in their right mind would not grade such an expensive card?"

Here's how crazy Star Jordan stuff is getting. I just got outbid on the 10 card bag set that was sitting on eBay for the past week at around $1500-1600. Went to $4850 in the final seconds!

Here is another one. I see the seller is CYAing himself by saying its a reprint. But Ive been looking back and forth and I cannot tell the difference between the this one and one that is graded. What am I missing?https://www.ebay.com/itm/1984-85-198...0AAOSw8KRgDkks

The goldin will go over 30k easy. I’m sure even above $35k.
I’m in the minority on this forum, but my view is don’t buy into the hype. A few things - I do think this card is massively undervalued and appreciated relative to the 1986 Fleer and other cards given the low pop, but EVERYTHING is overvalued right now. I personally wouldn’t chase the hype. People will say Jordan’s will never go down - they have, they will again. Everything is manic right now and there is a lot of blind hype buying. In full disclosure, I own an 8.5 101 so I think it’s a great card, but I’m not a believer in the sustainability of the market in general long term. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You have to factor in a 20% buyer's premium with Goldin Auctions so that card is already at $28,800 actually and I guarantee it will go for around $35k or higher when all is said and done.

Honestly, I wouldn't expect much of a dip in any vintage MJ stuff anytime soon. Maybe it has gone down in the past, but we're in an entirely different market now and the prices being set will either stabilize or continue to rise. You won't be picking up any of his Fleer or Star cards at a significant discount anytime soon and probably not ever.

If you check the population and the number of countable rookies of LeBron James, you will have a general idea about how these Star Jordans should worth. According to Beckett's pop report, the entire population for 9.5 Star Jordans is 1270 which include all 22 Star Jordans cross the year 1984-1986, and I am talking about cards with three decades history in Gem Mint holders. On the other hand, I would only use 2003 Topps LeBron rookie as an example, and the population for them is 8497 BGS 9.5 and 1854 PSA 10. Again, LeBron has so many countable rookie cards from Topps, Upper Deck, Fleer, Bowman etc, but Jordan only has Star and Fleer. For the Star Jordans, I would say believe the hype.

My comment was essentially that this card has long been under appreciated compared to other issues. It has long been undervalued compared to say the 1986 Fleer. That said - that doesn’t mean an over $20k spike in an 8.5 in less than a month is normal appreciation. There are lots of people who will share lots of reasons why sports cards acting like cryptocurrency is justified and normal, but the bottom line is prices are spiking faster and crazier than ever before - and it’s not just in sports cards. I wouldn’t bet on that dynamic to be permanent. Does that mean everything will crash to pre-pandemic levels? Probably not, but some return to normalcy in society will take money out of the market. I would also say, it seems like you are relatively new to this, or at least to this specific card and I would make sure to do your research before dropping $25k. Whatever is listed right now isn’t the last to be listed so don’t rush into a decision. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I agree am just sitting back waiting myself to buy Jordan 101. The hype is too crazy and the economy is to unpredictable. I'm sit and wait into someone ready to sale that needs the extra money.

At this point for under 25k I think the bgs 7 for auction is your best option. I have a feeling the bgs 8 esp after taxes are added in will be over 25k. You can also wait for 7.5 or another 7 to go to auction but you don't know when that will be and who knows what the prices will be at that point in time. |

I wish I had the money to grab 101 but my budget can only support me on 86 Star Jordans.
