Any other set builders undertaking an impossible task?

I used to put together sets of cards before boxes went up in price. I do like the Allen Ginter minis and have thought about it a few times.

Other than that, the only insert set I have finished was a 2000 WNBA Feel the Game set, odd choice.

1. (retired) 2001 Topps Archives Autographs 156 of 158 (Never got Hank Aaron or Carl Yaz) I broke up the set to focus on T206 collection

2. (complete) 2002 Donruss Diamond Cuts (Auto, Jersey, and Bats) # between 100 and 500 per card.

3. 2009 Topps 206 Cycle Back #/99 (60%)

I'll throw my hat in the ring for one I've given up on. 2019 Sterling Retrospect full rainbow minus the Supers. Got 50% of the /5s and 70% of the /10s. The reds just do not show up anymore, so no reason to overpay for the rest of the Black, Blue, Gold, and Refractor color I don't have

Loved the inks in 2012 Bowman Platinum baseball in the 100 card Purple, Blue #d to 199, Green#d to 399. Gold #d to 50 and Red # 25 Refractors. Finished the Purple, Green and Blue 100 card refractor sets and slowly plugging away on

2012 Bowman Platinum Gold #d to 50 Refractors 95/100 so far Now 95/100 (as of 9/1/2024)
2012 Bowman Platinum Red #d to 25 Refractors 72/100 so far Still at 72/100

Also down to a Griffey 221 and 334 Wainwright to compete a 1-354 2006 Topps Chrome Black Border Refractor set Still looking

I completed the 8100 card 1998 Topps TEK set (all 90 pattern of all 90 players) back in 2004 and five sets of the 2000 Fleer Focus Masterpiece mania #d to 300 set (250 card set with each card numbered to 300). Also completed 2005 and 2006 Turkey Red White Border sets last year for my tough to complete sets.

Chipped away at Impossible the other day, picked up the 2013 Ortiz Boston Strong card. Never thought I would try for that one. But now this means I want the Teddy Kremmer and Baby King George cards from that SSP run. Seems, Impossible.

Been working on the 2020 Topps Stadium Club auto set. 101 card set (all on card autos). I’ve managed to get 91 of them. Of the 10 remaining, there’s some that I’ve never seen in the wild.

I have been sitting at 16/20 cards for a SSP insert set from 2012 Topps Chrome for quite a bit of time.

Project was started in early 2018; my last pickup was the Montero about ~27 months ago, back in late summer 2021.

About half of the missing are the gold base parallels /50, with another chunk being miscellaneous GU cards. Have most of the dual patches and just about all the dual GU; half the bat knobs /10 and quad GU /25.

There has been some theoretical discussion of those on here over the years, revolving around the Bryce Harper card, iirc. I don’t think a consensus was reached on print run. /10 is not unrealistic. Not sure how the threads could be retrieved by search.

In 2013 I participated in a group break of TC and the consensus was the photo variations were at the case hit level that year, maybe/probably even more difficult. I would like to find just one of the 13s but I don’t even bother/remember to try very often.

Trying to finish two impossible sets:
1999-2007 UD A piece of History 500 home run complete set. Missing 3 cards - Ruth, Ruth/Aaron/Mays, and exchange card. I was saving for Ruth and pandemic hit. I got priced out. I should have purchased when Ruth/Aaron/May were readily available. Was waiting for it to go down further. Now I'm priced out. Never saw exchange card show up at all. Not sure whether it's still in the packs.

2000 UD A piece of History 3000 hits jersey/bat dual set that is /100 or less. This has been one of most difficult set to do. I'm constantly outbidded when they come out in auction.

UD Canvas set from Upper Deck hockey. I have also added the SP Legends set into it. I have a vast majority of the Vets/Young guns, but still missing most of the top YGs, as well as the autos

Dawg, are you stalking me from the Yordan Alvarez thread? Your negativity astounds me. Here you are in a random thread from a long time ago. You know that there are only 50 Refractor sets available and the base set is 199 large? A lot of cards are locked in player and team PCs. Again, you've proven that you have no idea what you're taking about.

I'd say comfortably that half is already opened based on the Superfractor tracker. Aaron Judge was recently pulled so it does get opened every so often. I have about a third of the gold set and the dozen PSA 10s on the PSA set registry. I attempted to have the refractor set listed in the registry but nothing so far. I sent in an adjustment request about the weights so that could be one issue. As for golds, they get snapped up fast but I will randomly see them posted. Prices fell a lot for many players except Ohtani. He's way above where he was from 2020. I remember buying them for $60. He's in Trout territory now easily.

That's what I like about the legit SP's back then. Nobody was really sure how many they were printed but they were tough!

I'm attempting partials of the 2007 and 2009 sweet spot Immortal signatures sets

2007 I have 27/39.
With multiple 1/1's Including supposedly a Ruth and Gehrig I'd love to see a picture of at least. This will NEVER be complete but will be the very last of my collection to go anywhere. Love these cards.
A few of rhe ones remaining I need are Al Lopez, Charlie Gehringer, Larry Doby

2009 12/25
Again, will never be complete but still looking to add as many as possible. Not as good as 2007 but the checklist has some great names on it.
