Change “hobby” for art and you’ve described 99% of modern art. This set is an overpriced joke.

I’m glad you guys don’t like this set. It will help keep print runs down.

When it’s a low print run but when everyone who will ever want one gets one, well, it won’t matter.

I knew it was fake right away.
Had it been real, Ryan would have been depicted throwing with his left hand.

I’m pretty sure the proofs are being bought with bots. I was on when the Henderson went live and I clicked it right away and it was sold out. It hadn’t even had a chance to tick a second off when I clicked on it. No way a human bought 20 before I clicked it. But oh well, now that I know that I won’t even bother trying to buy another proof, lol. I bought a Clemente Bc I really liked that card and have followed Mister Cartoon for years. Now I’m torn between buying all the Mister Cartoon ones or all the Clemente’s. But with everything going on I may not buy anymore at all.

Exactly. I can’t believe how obtuse people are here. They are expecting like an exact replica of the card drawn to perfection and that’s not the point of this.

People who don't like these are obtuse? I understand they aren't supposed to be exact replicas of the existing cards, but Topps finally managed to release a limited George Brett card that I don't want.

On the plus side, the fact that they can sell 1000-3000 of each of these at $20 a pop means the economy is better off than we think.

You didn’t come in here and say it was the worst drawing you had ever seen. Again, it’s what the artist does. I think people were expecting Living Set quality drawings and not understanding what the artists do that Topps picked for this set. I haven’t loved every one of them, but I understand it’s art and supposed to be different and not cookie cutter. I’m sorry you don’t like that Brett but you have 19 others coming up and you may like a couple of them.

Put simply...

Living Set, and other sketch cards = person good at drawing.

2020 Project = Actual art.

Guess it just depends on personal taste, but to me there could be nothing more boring than living set type of drawings.

What I love that Topps did is hire *actual* artists, creating in their own spaces to create something in the baseball card space. It's exciting! I'm not as excited about the artists who already make sports stuff, because their takes on the cards haven't been all that fresh. The non sports artist's cards have been the best so far!!

You nailed it.

People already appreciate this product. You just don’t hear from very many of them.

I’m a firm believer that interest in this set and these cards will grow. It won’t matter very much to me either way though, as I like them, and there’s little that will change that.

I sure hope I get lucky enough to land a few gold-borders. Those look amazing to me.

That’s not even a drawing. It’s hot garbage. And while you can’t believe how obtuse people are being for not liking these abominations, I can’t believe how pretentious people are being that do.

Super interested to see what the gold borders end up going for! Would be thrilled to hit one in any of the cards!

Did this artist design the 2013 Triple Play set?

On a related note, I think 2013 Triple Play is worse than 1991 Fleer.

Also - Not to seem as though I'm trying to defend the 1991 Fleer design in any way, but you can look multiple years in either direction from 1991, and there isn't a Fleer set in sight that isn't fairly ugly. 1991 Fleer just comes from an entire family of ugly sets...haha

I know many people won’t like these.

I love how much is going on in this particular Brett card. I can hardly wait to get mine in-hand and try to see all that is going on. I see “pine tar” and many other little quirks. It’s a neat, mini masterpiece.

Not even close.

But there's a sucker born every minute, and a lot of them are the people paying $20 a card for this junk.

Except that some of the artists appear to be in kindergarten.

There are plenty of talented artists out there who could use this type of exposure. It's too bad Topps decided instead to hire the cheapest artists they could find.

The Willie Mays card and the Bob Gibson card are the only two so far that are actually any good....

Topps should be pricing these at $5 a card, not $20 a card.
