Wish I knew. I do know that my own collecting habits have changed considerably. I don’t chase the latest and greatest RPA’s anymore. I focused strictly on licensed UD stuff from the 90s & 00s for a while too, but that became boring after a while as well. I love basketball and I want to collect cards of exciting NEW stars. I don’t like a lot of what of Panini puts out, but I do think they do a very good job with their inserts, particularly the “rare” ones, ie case hits, so that’s where I’ve put a lot of my focus lately. It’s been a lot of fun and honestly has renewed my interest in the hobby. Most of the ones mentioned here already. Whenever a new product is announced I look at the checklist and decide if there are any inserts that peak my interest. If there are, I’ll chase them.

That being said, I love Galatic.

The optic Black Velocity inserts /39 look really nice. Think there’s enough distinction from those and the countless parallels from Prizm that would make these a sought after card in the future?

Aside from silvers/holos and golds, I have no friggin idea what anyone is going to like in the future. There are so many parallels anymore. Some of them will be sought after, many long forgotten. Optic may even overtake Prizm one day, and the black velocity seems to be the most sought after Optic parallel. Aside from numbering, I don’t see them as different from the blue velocity, but that’s me.

Blues are nice but the black adds a lot of depth and makes the refractor/color lines pop a lot more imo, it's more noticeable in-hand but it's definitely there. Big fan of the blacks, especially since they're only /39. Heck the pinks /79 are pretty fun too, but long-term I'm holding all the black optics.

Yeah I agree with you. Wish Panini would chill with the oversaturation of all these parallels haha. I feel like they could cut the number of parallels in half and still have plenty of “shiney-ness” on the market ha.

I think the black velo’s pop a little different from the rest of the crowd as well, wish there weren’t so many different parallels..

I should’ve probably added I haven’t had a black velocity in hand, to be fair, but have seen the blue and think they’re pretty damn cool. But I only have so much $$$ to spend on cards and can’t chase all 980 parallels across all 35 products.

I'm right there with ya, I only chase the ones I really like and ones I find a bit scarce. Oddly enough the more colors/variations they add to Prizm the easier I find to ignore them. Get a few silvers and then any of the old standards under /100 [Purple, Orange, Mojo, Gold] - ignore the rest. Oh wait I do like Blue Ice a lot though. I kind of group the Ice /99 in with the Black Velocity and Galactics - the new kids on the black that have some aesthetic appeal.

Ya I’d say that the Mojos stand out amongst the Prizm parallels that aren’t gold or silver.

I know it’s only one case, but the FOTL Blue Shimmer Luka’s are amazing, being Mavs colors and all.

Imo the best looking of all Luka Prizms.

Aside from the Gold prizms that almost everyone named, kudos to the one poster who correctly guessed that: Kabooms! would be the clear winner in the future.

A few takeaways from reading this:

Prizm Gold is still king (aside from some 1/1's). LeBron's 2012 Prizm Gold is the biggest non 1/1 of the Panini basketball era.

Kabooms probably next at the moment. I still don't get it, nor do I know how long it'll last.

Galactics were hot when this thread was made. Last week's LeBron sale told me that they still have some luster, but it hasn't taken off quite like Kabooms or Golds.

Eminence. Lol. Someone tried to pump Eminence.

I think a lot of the conversation now should be "What did Panini ruin by watering down too much".

-Galactics print runs went up in subsequent years
-Kaboom print runs went up in subsequent years (but had gold to save the day)
-FOTL Shimmers print runs went up in subsequent years (and they ruined FOTL)

Thank god they didn't start making Prizm Golds /15, then /20, then /25.

I just had a quick peak at the prizm checklist based on pop report

In 2013 Kobe (card #1) had 11 parallels

In 2023 Franz Wagner (card #1) had 39 parallels

"OMG a super extra short print white martian dung beetle prizm silver"

IIRC that was the27guy's little muse a few years back. Would have to dig it up but there was a huge hype megathread.

Good ol' days.

tbf I've only been in the hobby since covid and I thought Kaboom, DT, and Prizm gold will be the big thing going forward. Still believe they are

Could be. I think it's important for whatever's next to have lineage. Seems like Kabooms and Golds are the OG's in that respect. Downtowns were a fairly recent introduction, though I do understand people gravitate towards the unique look and artwork.
