Me too , I picked up the base optic contenders auto instead for cheaper but now seeing this it would have been smarter to pay a little more to get the red . Not really sure what to think the true value is right now don’t think it’s 11k but not sure it’s 20k either , but then again someone just dropped 20k

I agree with you. I thought the red that ended recently was a little cheap. However, I didn’t look at bidding but that red is crazy high. Although, people do go crazy over team colors

Yes, I agree but nobody has went crazy in regards to team colors until tonight in regards to this card. Will be interesting to see what continues to happen

Not sure what’s off. Bidding history shows 7 unique bidders of 15k+. Red optic is arguably one of his best looking RC’s.

2017 PSA 10 Prizm’s for ~ 4k. 2017 Contenders hobby boxes going for ~ $1,600.

Prices are higher than a month ago

I get this is ~ 2x the last sale, but also has a nicer auto and 2 10’s

2-CLR 9.5 NT RPA /99 just sold for 50k. A few months ago a 1-CLR 9.5 sold for 22.8k.

It's not so much about the contract- It's about the event. News. SocialMedia. Think of every Patty news event as marketing for his cards. Next will be start of the season, then recap of the Superbowl, then opening night vs Watson, then fastest player to 100 TD's ever... etc etc... All reasons to put money into Pat cards. If we can just get this season to go off without issues, it is going to Mahomes and the Chiefs media overload.

Why?

Brady is the GOAT. If the season in canceled it doesn't matter for him. Just makes it tougher for anyone else to reach some of the marks he's put up.

McCaffrey: Well, if there is football, or at least the idea of football a few weeks out, he's going to be #1 in every fantasy draft. That will have some implication on card prices (even if short term)

Mahomes: Best case scenario: We have a season and he is must see TV. Worst Case scenario: No football and he spends another year and reigning Super Bowl MVP.

For the record, I think the NFL pushes through this. College football... maybe not. But I think the NFL does everything it damn well can to put a season together.

makes sense the 9.5 hit 20k....

Getting very tough to find graded, authentic versions of the Red.... I cant wait to see what a PSA 9 or 10 Blue sells for next with recent price spikes!

While this is a big jump, I have felt like the high end Mahomes market has lagged significantly behind the rest of the Mahomes market. Seeing the prices of Prizm, Optic, XRC along with most other non-auto, non-parallel cards rise like they have, it was only a matter of time before NT, Flawless, Contenders, and other rookie card autos took off.

I believe this was the first year for optic contenders. The print run on these is small and the red has the combo of being numbered and a team color. Team colors have been a thing for a while now in sports cards as they look great and appeal to a lot of collectors, especially fans of the particular team.
For me, it made no sense that the red optic contenders was selling for only 2x the psa 10 silver prizm and essentially in the same range as the XRC.

For me this is magnified when you factor in the way his auto has changed since his rookie year. I can't help but think anything rookie auto will only appreciate over time, but particularly in the short term as we are seeing prices on the premier high end cards catch back up to the rest of the Mahomes market.

Another way of looking at it is POP report. Base gem Contenders Optic (with lower subs) sold for $8,600 in late-June. While the print run is unclear, BGS currently shows 178 graded copies total (vs. 44 for the red). The red that just sold went for a ~ 2.5x premium to the base despite there being ~ 4x more of the latter. Red looks infinitely better too. Price of the last red sale can be justified to me based on this logic alone. Just my opinion.

This was my play 6 months ago when prizm 10s were doing 100...you think they have room to run being close to 4 now?
