Thanks for the advice! I didn't collect in 2018, but was it priced that high because it was his first SP? I know the Bowman mega was his first card (2017), and then the topps now card at the podium. Was this card priced so highly because of its early release and hype? I think the PR is around 1500ish, so its not a SSP. Other SSP's from other Topps brands can be had for cheaper I think, so it interesting you like this card (I assume due to pedigree).

Back then Topps actually released sets on-time and Heritage low was a spring craze. Ohtani's cards were a late addition to the printing schedule so they were only inserted in hobby format as the #17 action insert, even though it's clearly a classic Heritage photo. His #600 action in HHN is more reflective of an action variation. So for all intents and purposes his #17 is a straight up SP rookie card. This was a big chase card at that time as people were mystified with Ohtani during spring training. Bowman, TC, and other sets came after Heritage low, but this was his first desirable rookie card and the chase was very real.

Speaking of opening day, the Toy-r-Us purple foil is super underrated as well. Super limited run and virtually zero sealed.

Dating myself for a minute, but my first job out of college, I worked for a financial firm and one of my first assignments was to do the collateral loan analysis for Toys r Us. It was bad-bad ugly. As you all know, Toys r Us went out of business in 2018 and there were only a handful of stores left to sell the Toys r Us edition opening day. This card holds a special place for me.

As an outside lawyer who was involved in their late-days refinancing efforts, global corporate restructuring, etc., before it all finally collapsed, I could tell you some stories.

If it was ugly as what I saw in the mid 2000s, I can't even imagine what it looked like in the waning days. There are so many classic business lessons to be learned from the demise of some of those corpora giants from the 80-90s.

The LBO was an unmitigated disaster, as most are.

Had this one on my short list as a collector of Ohtani reds. Glad one finally showed up at auction

Was wondering anyone knows the print run on this national topps give away card. Did some research and it looks like this card was given at the stadium for one game only. These cards seem to rarely pop up on Ebay but are fairly cheap? Anyone have any other info? Thanks!

2018 Topps National Baseball Card Day Stadium Giveaways

There is also an in-stadium segment of 2018 Topps National Baseball Card Day featuring team-specific packs and a different selection from the main NBCD set. These are not the same cards found at hobby shops.

I've seen plenty of the batting pose, never seen the pitching one before.

I think there is one of these cards on Ebay right now for $70. Not mine (I don't sell my cards on Ebay). I just noticed these cards appear super rare. Not sure if they are SP or SSP cards. I was hoping someone like Trueblue might know the story on this card.

I wonder what is the most number of pitches thrown before stealing a base. He's a freak.

He should be slated for Friday right? I'm in Houston right now for a wedding, I should've asked if they could push it back a week.

Hieeee!

Have fun in H-Town. I think Friday too, but would be bummed to buy the wrong day.
