I love seeing Dan Lanning fail, his signing day posts were peak arrogance.

I'm going to throw up a little but is Michigan the frontrunner?
Agreed on Lanning - I am really hoping the B1G big three take the Ducts to the woodshed next year.

Ohio State and Michigan State win out going into the last game of the season then split that game and the CCG, is it just the CCG winner that gets in?

Or Michigan and Penn State win out and then PSU beats Michigan in a close game.

Florida State’s path looks clear.

Oklahoma and Texas win out, Texas wins the rematch over Oklahoma and both finish 12-1. Once again, Conference champion is in.

Washington wins out.

So you’ve got to choose four between:

One loss UGA, non conference champion
One loss Alabama, conference champion
One loss Big 10 non champion with win over conference champ
One loss Big 10 champ
One loss Big 12 non champion with win over champion
One loss Big 12 champ
Undefeated FSU
Undefeated Washington

Fenway, refresh my memory on your formula and what would happen here?
That's...not how the Big 10 championship game works. There is no rematch from Michigan/OSU/PSU. Whoever wins out that side plays the West winner, who will likely be Iowa or Wisconsin

If we use history as a guide, the 4 playoff teams (in no order) would be:

Definitely FSU and Washington based on fewest losses. An undefeated ACC champ makes things very difficult. (IMHO it would be very easy to leave out a 1-loss ACC Champ but you just can't do it if they're undefeated).

Then 2 of the 3 conference champs. It is tough to say which 2 based solely on the above. Head to head is important so if that 1-loss Big 12 champ is Texas, they’re in over Alabama based on H2H. I know it sounds crazy, but Alabama would be left out in favor of Texas.

In order to further break down which 2 conference champs get in, the committee would look at strength of victory. IMHO a 1-loss big 10 champ has the strongest strength of victory - though it would depend on how good their CCG win was. It also depends on how good the committee ranks UGa, who could very likely have not a single ranked victory all season long (therefore Alabama’s victory over UGA in the SECCG just isn’t seen as that big of a deal).

If 1-loss Oklahoma wins the Big 12, that means they beat the team that beat Alabama. Officially common opponents in a PC factor. However I don’t think that would be enough to get in since Alabama has wins over UGA and a potentially top 10 Ole Miss. OU would be left out.

LSU got thumped by FSU and lost to (and allowed 55 points to) a team Alabama beat. They’re playing in Tuscaloosa. I don’t think Alabama is gonna cruise, but I don’t think it’s as close as you might want to believe.

If you are talking about ND (and I honestly don't know if you are or aren't) then that Louisville loss may end up costing ND the playoffs.... it certainly made the committee's decision easier since a 1-loss Notre Dame team has a legit case given how hard their schedule is this year and the fact that the 1-loss was by a yard to Ohio State....

Yep. Notre Dame fans are pointing and laughing at Louisville, not realizing that every Louisville loss makes Notre Dame look bad.

Notre Dame has two losses and has no chance at the playoffs.

No fooling. That's kinda the point I was making when I said "that Louisville loss may end up costing ND the playoffs" and that loss "certainly made the committee's decision easier."

New rankings are up!

Best gain: Notre Dame gained 6 to #15. If we extend out to "Others Receiving Votes" then Mizzou also gained 6 to #20 and Air Force gained 6 to #22 and Tulane gained 7 from #30 to #23. But Iowa is the bigger winner gaining 9 from #33 to #24.

Best gain/loss for a loser: Oregon was treated very mercifully by the writers, dropping only 1 spot despite their loss. IMHO that's fair, but less of a loss than what the writers normally do in such a situation.

Worst fall: The writers were waiting to hit USC hard and now they have their excuse, dropping the Trojans 8 spots to #18. If we extend out to "Others Receiving Votes" then Kansas dropped 11 spots from #23 to #34.

Worst gain/loss for a winner: Penn State dropped a spot despite winning 63-0.

Another pretty lackluster week outside of the ND blowout of crybaby Caleb Williams who stomped off the field.

IMO and I'm sure as usual I'll be told how wrong and disconnected I am but to me College Football is quickly becoming NFL Lite. Especially next year when half of the FBS schools make the playoffs with several 2 and 3 loss teams. Simply is no reason to watch regular season games because they don't matter. Nobody will care about the playoffs until we get to the final 4 teams which is how it should have stayed. I get more money Yay but more money equals watered down entertainment value.

Next year there will be more regular season games which matter, not fewer - especially as we get to the end of the season where more teams are still alive.
