i'd be more inclined to think they poked around terry francona before committing.

Free agency is starting. And as we all know, the Jays have a few areas to address in order to make that leap from just a Wild Card team to World Series contender.

They're retaining Anthony Bass, which is good, and hopefully they can re-sign Ross Stripling while finding a way to dump Kikuchi's salary. (Trade him, along with money and a prospect for future considerations?)

Beyond that, though, they need at least one more starting pitcher, a couple of big bullpen arms, and at least one effective left-handed bat. But they probably really need two lefty bats.

The temptation is to say "they should sign this guy, this guy and this guy." But I'm thinking they focus their free-agent dollars on relievers, and then trade for the other needs.

I'd like to see them get Pablo Lopez from the Marlins to shore up the rotation. For the bullpen, sign Rafael Montero, and either sign Matt Moore (to add a lefty) or offer Pittsburgh a couple prospects for David Bednar.

Speaking of Pittsburgh, the Jays could make the deal even bigger by also going after Bryan Reynolds. He'd be expensive, so the Jays might have to get creative--perhaps even involving a third team that would want Gabriel Moreno (The Cardinals?). Otherwise, maybe the Jays can do a deal that centers on a swap of Moreno for Nolan Gorman. Also, Arizona has a surplus of lefty-hitting outfielders, so maybe Jake McCarthy could be available. And Austin Meadows could be a nice buy-low reclamation project from Detroit.

Options certainly exist for the Jays to address their needs. Let's just hope they can!

What is on everyone else's wish lists?

I wish Nate Pearson could stay healthy and turn into a starting beast

The Pie in the Sky answer We trade for Ohtani and he is willing to accept the move here to be with his old team mate Kikuchi....

I know i know, not going to happen, but wouldn't that be a wondaful trade off for his contract and last years performance? - I dont think Kikuchi is trade able so i just hope he can be a serviceable arm from the pen.

The Rumor i like the most is one of the 3 catchers goes to St Louis and we snag a young outfielder like D Carlson or Nootbar. - Both can bat Lefty.

I dont want to change the infield - Bo at SS, Cavan and Santi fight for 2nd.

This will be unpopular but I really like Cavan and his ability to play anywhere.

I dont know how i feel about the arms situation other then we need changes and upgrades. - Hope Chikenstrip can come back,

Does anyone know the status of Ryu? Could he be back mid season ? Can they get him off the books?

I would hope that they got something to showcase at the stadium, like a Superfract....

Man, pitching...good pitching and not some reclamation project. The thing watching the playoffs, the bullpens of these other teams were sick. I'm not even sure Romano would be up there with some clubs 2nd guy that comes out. Of course as well all know, a lefty bat.

This year ultimately, they need to do something major. Mitch White and Merrifield as your big moves, dont cut it.

Aiming high! I like it.

Ryu is supposed to be back midseason.

Is a Cardinals trade in the rumor mill up your way? The Cardinals seem like the most natural fit, especially since they need a catcher and the Jays have plenty of them.

I wouldn’t mind Biggio being moved to accommodate an emerging power hitter like Gorman. Alec Burleson is another lefty prospect that StL has. He mashed in Triple-A last year.

Getting rid of Kikuchi is plausible. A team that needs an innings eater might take him if they get a prospect out of it.

The talking heads on Sportsnet (who play all the jays games in Canada and are owned by Jays Parent co Rogers,) mentioned St Louis as the front runner for the catchers. Apparently there is substantial interest in all 3. Seems like an easy fit. Obviously we need arms but I could see a shake up in right and left field. Teo is a FA in 24 and Lourdes in 25.

Check out the customs jays (and Bills) signs I had made for my man cave. Arrived last week. Sold metal 2 tier for the 3d effect - the the SGC Bichette for Scale.

I was really hoping the Jays would make a run at Rafael Montero, but the Astros knew they had a good thing and locked him up.

As you pointed out, the top teams tend to have killer bullpens. The Jays have a good bullpen, a foundation to work with. But they really need to plug in a couple big-time arms to get them over the hump. And now there’s one less arm available.

I'm guessing they tried to extend him and it didn't go the way he imagined.

I'm also thinking the Jays are into a few guys and needed the savings!

They’re definitely seeking out a big lefty bat.

And they’re also probably planning for Vlad and Bo extensions.

And they got a shutdown reliever. (Assuming Swanson isn’t just a one-year wonder.)

Gotta believe Nimmo is high on their list.

Also looks like extension talks went nowhere, but we probably won't know the truth about that for a few years, if ever.

Heartbroken for losing Teo but he’s so excited to go to Seattle. He’s going to be very motivated next season and playing along side Julio, he will have fun!

This guy called and confirmed the Springer and Gausman signings before anyone else did. If he's going to go 3-0, this would be an amazing follow up to that trade.

Seems like maybe the wrong guy to go after so aggressively.

The positives: He’s a lefty bat and high-OBP, top-of-the-order hitter. And maybe they think he’ll be even better in a post-shift world.

The negative: He’ll be 30 by the start of the 2023 season, and just this year he played 150 games for the first time. That’s a lot of time missed to injury.

I’d rather they put a trade package together for Bryan Reynolds, who’s a couple years younger, has been healthier and a little better while playing for lowly Pittsburgh, and probably would take off in that Jays lineup. (But maybe they already know that’s not feasible, for whatever reasons.)

But if the Jays do get Nimmo, I’ll root for him to set the table for Vlad & Co.

I've got some major hometown bias,

but how is 150 million committed to Nimmo better than committing to Teo?

a little bit of snow on the ground, but nothing projected for today.

it's -10 with a wind chill, however.

My nipples got frostbite just from reading the wind chill.

So, now 6 feet of snow, like what Buffalo got?

Nimmo is left-handed, plays all fields and gets on base. Teo was sacrificed because he didn't resign during their talks and because they saw value in the trade with Seattle in the form of a top flight reliver, a curious prospect and almost $20 million to spend on a lefty power bat.

I'd love to see one more lefty on the team...maybe even Bellinger if he can be had for a team-friendly contract.
