I have definitely gemmed bigger cards, but I am super happy about this one. This is my second copy, but I didn't sub the other one. Tough card - now a pop 10.

That's such a beautiful card. Congrats!

Finally graded this in April after pulling in 2018. I was more excited about the Gleyber and Acuna SPs but...yeah, this one felt good. Likely going to put it towards a dream card but we'll see.

This may or may not be true, but the overall market may be affecting Ohtani's cards from going much higher this year. The economy is definitely holding back prices from going up for the players you mentioned. Ohtani has a lot of PC collectors and the Japanese market also drives prices up. I have settled on a few Ohtani RC cards that have graded PSA 10 to hold. None of them are huge, but they will suffice. Ohtani does not even need hype because he does it on the mound and at the plate to excite fans.

Guys, it's a very novel concept. Just like in business, you have to ask yourself if a fluctuation in an output is due to rate versus mix. For guys like Acuna, it's the same fans willing to pay incrementally more - rate. For Ohtani it's throngs of brand new collectors captivated by WBC entering the scene, as well as the same people willing to pay higher prices - mix and rate. That is the obvious differentiator.

When I jumped back into the hobby in early 2022 after a long hiatus I made a lot of bone-headed errors. Bought into a ton of breaks with awful ROI, mostly football and basketball despite not knowing much about either sport.

Ohtani pulled me back into collecting what I loved as a kid and a young teen/20something back in the day - baseball cards. Also helped me ditch the habit of buying into breaks.

I watched every game he played last year with the exception of a few that work didn't allow me to and even then I'd be sure to catch the highlights on youtube when they were posted. He's easily the most exciting and captivating player in the game right now.

Just came across this picture of the "value box" score I made at the first local show I went to last year. Please forgive the non-Ohtani cards in the image. If memory serves I snagged all these for $150 and both the Topps Chrome Ohtanis and the Camo JROD got PSA 10s so that worked out really well.

That Sapphire is also a card I hope to own one day. All of those cards are amazing!

His control wasn't great and the double play ball bailed him out twice. He finished strong and it's a step forward, but better box score than reality. I hope Sho finds a way to command that sweeper more consistently.
