Shaq led his team to the Finals very early in his career, Zion ain't gonna be doing that is an issue at these price levels.

I don’t think Zion’s prices include any grand postseason expectations. He is actually still pretty affordable (granted high end is a different story) given his youth and production. In today’s market where a 21 year old puts up 25 or more points in one game and their Prizms go bonkers, a 20 year old which is a threat to do that every night should command at least what most of his mid tier stuff is going for.

Although he needs to improve his defense, his rebounding is solid and his scoring at this point in his career is borderline legendary.
Nobody is expecting ships from Trae or Ja any time soon and their stuff still carries a pretty hefty price tag. People just need to see health (biggest factor that held his market down), production, and highlights. That is enough for now. Down the road, expectations will grow.

I think the "Zion is expensive / overpriced" narrative had some truth behind it initially, but while everything else has grown, he's remained relatively stable (but the narrative from the peanut gallery remains). Now, I don't buy/sell Prizm Base slabs, but here's a quick look at some comps:

Zion ~$700
Ja ~$650
Trae ~$750
Luka ~$1700

Tyler Herro ~$250
Collin Sexton ~$250
Keldon Johnson ~$250

Take a look at that list and tell me Zion's prices are overvalued compared to some of the other names, or which card on that list already has MVPs/championships baked in (hint, it's not Z). Everything is speculative, and in my opinion his ceiling is higher than either guy at his price point (Ja or Trae), and I'll take him all day over the 3 bottom guys combined.

I did not realize those were current prices. Yowza. For me:

Zion > Luka >>>>Ja >>>>>>>>>Trae > Everyone else on that list

Yeah, this whole '6 mvps/12 championships baked in' argument is getting ridiculous and played. Either you haven't been paying attention to current permabull market conditions across the board, or simply believe the entire landscape is a farce.

If you believe the second to be true, then HMU with what you got at 2018 BV. Can't weight.

I do believe that the entire base RC landscape is a farce. People have a hard time with probability weighting. They don't know their basketball history -- they are unaware of the fact that it is incredibly hard to matter for more than a few years.

Or they just overestimate their ability to get out of their inventory before everyone else.

I truly believe there may be a bubble waiting to burst once market volume diminishes for most of these mid-lower tier prospects. But it seems the cycle repeats for the next new crop of draftees. How long that dynamic will last? I have no eyedear. But as of now, I'm enjoying seeing the 'paid: please ship' Ebay messages flooding my inbox on Goga B bass lots.

There are still only 2 players from the 19-20 class that are LIKELY to retain a relevant (hobby value wise) level of stardom in the long term and they are the same two that pretty much everyone would have guessed.

Yes, there will probably be a surprise thrown in there, but there’s plenty of time to buy in on the surprises. There’s too much ground floor FOMO. I think what is happening now is that you have guys like Keldon Johnson (promising young player no disrespect) surging to prices that aren’t reasonable and this in turn pushes up the players that truly may go meteoric once the dust settles. The market adjustments will hit a bit later.

As Spaceman’s post pointed out, no way I’m buying in on any of these second tier guys at their prices when their chance for long term hobby relevance is slim to none.

To be honest, the market on Zion has not adjusted accordingly yet (especially mid range stuff), and it is going to be headed north, not south.

Spectra gold RPA /10 sold for $5,000. Debated going after it, seller probably could have gotten more if he started the listing lower.

These two are on their way back from BGS for me. They'll match the BGS gem gold copies nicely.

I couldn’t resist putting in the minimum bid. Glad to snag it for that price. Will update when it arrives but looks like a beauty by the pics and gold with the pels jersey is nice.

Looking forward to sharing some of my zions with you all.

Nice cards man. Really dig that Blue Essentials! Chronicles Blues remain good buys.

I was lucky and pulled one in a group break, but mine was pretty beat up. Thought about going for it but I’m pretty Zion heavy at the moment.

Wow, that seems outrageously low. Maybe the low feedback scared some people but I can remember considering dropping like 12k on one last year. Great pick up.

Yeah I don’t know why it wasn’t even on my watchlist, maybe the high starting price? When will people learn that while .99 no reserve is scary, starting with a high starting bid like that loses potential buyers and likely loses you money? I don’t have the cash to drop on that right now anyway, recently put a chunk down on a contenders optic blue but man $5k for /10 on card is real nice
