As someone who immediately hit "Order", filled out the Google Doc, saved my CC info on Topps THEN... read some sage words of advice and realized I was trusting Topps to deliver $1k blindly on cards I didn't really find that attractive in the first place prompting removal of my CC info before it could be charged... As that guy, this has been a real treat of a thread. Now, if I were sitting here checking out my box of Amed Rosario, Bert Blyleven Justin Upton, Harold Baines and a /5 of Henry Owens (and while I'm well aware only 1 of these guys was on the "official" checklist, I have no doubt my box would have mirrored this in terms of gut punch), I'd at least have the humor of the past 10 pages, the impromptu rap-battle, poetry slam that I'm fairly sure Topps was NOT planning to accompany such a prestigious release. In all fairness, Topps Montgomery is at least being widely discussed, just not in the manner in which Topps would have preferred.

And then as soon as we hit the "What's in the Box?" Se7en meme, this thread entered into instant classic status.

So, the lesson here is Topps dangled a jewel encrusted shiny pyrite carrot and you degenerates fell for it, hook line and sinker.

What did we learn.

Pretty much.

I will be first to admit -- I actually through Topps was trying to and was going to put out something special. Turns out it was just a year end manufactured cash grab. My fault for being naive. It certainly won't happen again. I'm indebted to those that talked enough sense into me to not follow through on the Brooklyn disaster. For the few that pulled enough to break even, I'm happy for you.

I still think the 5 Montgomery sets have decent value, its just the Brooklyn junk that is a laugher

I'm not giving up on the $199 I spent, but I was very disappointed in what our 'exclusive' offer was.

The factory set with the logo will be nice, hopefully I don't get Henry Owens and Rob Refsnyder for all of my autos next year.

I'm not sure why the seller would choose to sell like this. It's only five cards. Why not sell them individually? Regardless, I'm interested to see the ending price here. I'm assuming it will be a pretty big loss, but we'll see.

I'm guessing $650-700ish. Definitely not the strongest box, and I agree he would do much better individually.

I don't know this product, but from an outsiders perspective my thought is 'Worst box?' looks probably more like average box, what are you hoping for, 4 Trouts and the 5th card being a redemption to hang out with Trout for a week?

I don't know the checklist, maybe my observation is way out line...

They are 5 decent cards, but most boxes that have been shared seemed to always have a 'bigger' hit (IE: Ohtani, Acuna, Trout, Judge, etc...). This one you would probably have to consider the base Ryan as the strongest card, which is definitely weaker than most.

Kinda like the guy who opened a 1952 Topps packs and sold the cards, wrapper and gum all in one shot, for cheap.

I'll allow Kuni to answer that one.

That's why you think that. Upton is the worst player in the checklist and Biggio is (arguably) the worst HOF on the checklist. For a $1000 investment, this is about as bad as you can do.

He could have hit a 6th card he’s keeping.

That's a good point, I was even lamenting for the seller that he got a weak box and no 6th card, but maybe he pulled an Ohtani or Acuna /5 and decided to dump the rest.

Dumb way to sell these cards. Individually would make much more sense.

If the seller only got 5 cards in their box and not 6 then they are looking at a $400 net loss. Sad.

Also, the seller's feedback leaves a lot to be desired. I wouldn't bid on this lot, even if the price was a steal.

Maybe he's over it and he doesn't care how much the cards sell for, just wants to get rid of them in one transaction

There are a few surprises on the list like Andrew McCutchen and Yadier Molina selling pretty well. I didn't include Topps Chrome, Heritage, and Bowman because those are the most collected. I really see this product on the level of Diamond Icons, Luminaries, etc.

That probably was a big waste of time, but I thought it would be good to see close values of each player on the list.
Dude called it

Always individual.

Aside from that, lets say he does get $600, that's 60% ROI. I open wax to build sets with a random box like TTT every now and then for fun. If everything I opened had a minimum (as this is considered a pretty low level box) 60% return, with a chance to break even or come out ahead, I'm in every time. We can all just go to the break section and see how many upper tier boxes return much less than 60%.

That being said, I'm a fan of about 25% of these card's design and color combination and am very pleased I did not buy in. But from a pure $ perspective, there are far worse buys out there.

Is it me, or is this picture Topps chose of Frank Thomas a perfect metaphor for their entire Brooklyn product?

At least the auto cards are THICC
