33 at bats is not a fair metric to judge anybody by. Give him some time. I've been prospecting since 2009 and he's the most impressive player I've seen since Trout.

True, but let's not forget he had 44 at-bats in spring training and many who invested in his cards were sure happy to point out how well he was doing. It works both ways, right?

Nobody's saying he's not talented. Nobody's saying he's a bad baseball player. But these are unarguable truths:

1.) In those 33 at bats he has only 5 hits, and only 1 has gone for extra bases (a double). No triples, no homers. He has scored 2 runs and driven in 0. He has struck out 12 times while walking only 3 times. He has been legitimately bad. Very bad if we're being honest. 33 at-bats is, as pointed out, a small sample size but we should not lie to ourselves and say it's only a game or two. It's more than that.

2.) The Braves, obviously, have noticed this and have delayed the call-up that so many people thought was inevitable on April 14 (yesterday). He is not still in the minor leagues for service time purposes. Ronald Acuna is in the minor leagues today because he is playing very bad baseball in 2018 and has not earned a call up to the big club by virtue of his 2018 regular season performance.

Am I worried? No. He's too talented for me to make a big deal about it. But he's playing badly right now, and I won't try to spin it any other way.

I think it’s fair to point out that Preston Tucker has given the Braves their money’s worth. Acuna has had plenty of slow starts and while this is a pretty extended slow start, I think the delayed call up (going on three whole days now lol) could have more to do with how the Braves are playing, Tucker’s performance, the shitty weather in Chicago, and then yes his slow start at the plate. I think a lot of people were banking on the Braves waiting for the home series against Philly for Acuna’s call up that starts Monday. I’d agree his slow start isn’t what the Braves wanted to see, but would also point out that there are other factors at play here.

I hope no one actually is giving that much of a thought to these 33 plate appearances. I think I’m going to judge him based on the 600 plate appearances where he hit .325 last year than the 33 rough ones he has had in 2018 lol. I’m fairly sure the Braves just want to call him up when he starts hitting so he doesn’t lose confidence early on.

Between Spring Training and his AAA numbers, he’s still hitting above .300 in 2018

Mike Trout hit .220 in his first 120 plate appearances in the Majors.

I agree! I’m not buying anything high end, but I am buying cards I think might be popular down the line. Would not mind picking up some more Mega’s!

Funny when I mentioned that they might not call him up right away because of his poor showing, the "Angry Coalition" jumped on my comment saying how stupid it was.

The projected call up date didn't happen... And he's still sucking, it's a matter of when he will find himself again not if, and I'm pretty sure his confidence is a bit shaken.

I think Acuna will be a very good major leaguer indeed
How many times have you seen him play on TV or in person?

Those who are deeply invested in a player don’t want to hear the truth. Not only because they do not want to be proven wrong, but because they don’t want their stash to take a hit in value. Good call on this!

I'm not a prospecter by any means. I usually hold everything I pull, too a fault in the most part. But this kid seems special, and it's way to early to judge his performance based on under 40 AB in AAA. I hope he gets on a tear and finds his way to Atlanta... it would be good for baseball to have 2 mega RCs to follow.

We shall see.... it will be fun to follow either way

I’m not doubting his ability...just stating a fact. He could be amazing or he could become a HUGE bust. I’m all for what’s good for baseball. I’m just saying a lot of people don’t want to accept what could be and get very defensive when it comes to a player they invested in.

Let's also remember he just turned 20. 20!

What's the average age for AAA? Like 28?

100% correct

But, I pitty those whose lives must be so miserable to ignore the 233 at bats at AAA that Acuna had last year where he batted over 0.340 and had a 0.940 OPS.

These non-investors come into threads like this, pumping their chest with "i told you so" type posts after...33 at bats, completely ignoring the high production of last year over an 8 fold larger sample size. Their lives must be so miserable that they are so upset on missing out on the cash! I'm a miserable person but not that miserable LOLZ!

Acuna will be fine. He played 54 games for Gwinnett last year and produced. He's in a slump. Some of you sound like you're lucky to have never been in a slump at the plate before.

There's nothing wrong with a little bit of humble pie on the way to greatness. Think all the greats probably hit a few bumps in the road on their path to stardom. Personally, this gives more time for the grading company to get my cards back to me lol!

Well said. Plus, it's a good early test to see if what he is made of. Rome wasn't built in a day. As for the grading comment....LOL
