Actually had to a exchange a few books at Barnes & Noble the other night so I checked but no dice ... just Pokemon & Magic stuff. Also have checked a few Walgreen's over the past month but never seen anything more than a S2 hanger.

There's a vast difference between pro-mass retailer and taking one for the team. If the latter were true, everyone retail hunting for basketball would have their own Mt. Zion.
You think Topps gives a #@#@#@#@? The retail product is bought and paid for MONTHS before it’s on the shelf. And Topps keeps putting out online exclusive boxes and they keep selling out.

The original comment was about companies flooding the retail market. I don't even know what point you're trying to make now

I went to a card show over the weekend, just about every other dealer had piles of retail for sale. It was crazy, this never used to be the case.

Over the long term expect topps and panini to increase what they sell through their digital business. Now there is no denying the power of walmart’s 5k storefronts and Targets 2k or whatever it is, so they’ll still be valuable partners, i would just imagine the card companies are increasing direct to consumer share over time.

In a major city like Chicago(where I’m from), there are a small handful of card stores in the city limits. And only ONE participated in national baseball card day.
The hobby store landscape is a tiny fragment of what it was even 20 years ago.

Meanwhile, there are ten THOUSAND wal marts and close to that many targets.

Mass retail is not going anywhere for Topps or panini.

That is correct. They will increase the % they sell direct. They will maintain the relationships with mass retailers. It’s not hard to figure out who will lose share in that scenario.

I saw the same at a orlando show, i wanted to say something but I didnt. Obvious they cleared every store out in the area as much retail product they were selling.

I found 35 toploader packs at walmart for 3.99, 3 of them
Plastic inflation in hobby shops is real
They need to used recycled poland spring bottles to make these lol

Man, do people really not like heritage at retail? The Walmart near me still has hangers, blasters and I think fat packs. One box even had a layer of dust on it!

Same thing is happening at Targets in Socal. Receivers are letting managers push the product before the rep can get there. I've caught a target push and the clerk stocked the pokemon and yu-gi-oh, left chronicles in the box and handed it to the manager who had rang him up. SMH
thats been going on for years in my area... i have not seen a box of basketball in 2 years
