As good as last year's numbers look, if you took out a few uncharacteristic clunkers, his numbers would be even more ridiculous. He just needs to avoid those outings this year and intentionally hit Jonah Heim every AB.

I'll settle for +300 on the year, I guess .

Bahahaha, poor, poor Jonah Heim. That's gonna leave a mark.

Dude is amazing.

I am not saying his cards are overpriced. I am just surprised how they have skyrocketed in such a short period of time.

I do agree with that sentiment. A lot of price jumps seemingly overnight, but they do seem genuine. So many new entrants to the hobby with the willingness to spend thousands. Like drunk sailors running to a... you know.

I've also noticed this at a much smaller scale locally. At a recent trade night, people who usually exclusively look for football/basketball were trying to pick up low-end Ohtanis off me.

I've always felt football/basketball was more GOAT-focused than baseball. I wonder if Ohtani making a stronger case as each year goes by that he is the GOAT is going to attract more and more football/basketball collectors into his market.

FOMO...people wanting to get in on the "action" in case he blows up even more...even on lower end cards...what's that saying...rising tide lifts all boats? Ohtani is doing stuff that no other player in baseball is doing.

I have a 2018 Update Gold set that I recently organized into a binder.

It has 5 sweet Ohtani cards.

2018 Update...the gift that keeps on giving.

This happened in 2021 with the euphoric purchasing. Not discounting the pandemic effect, but there was some crazy money being thrown, up to 2x over the last comps. My guess is that such behavior can continue through summer, but there is always a cool down period. In 2021, that was September/October where I reinvested most of the proceeds. Ride the cycle

Ohtani is pretty much already the Michael Jordan of Japan. I was sitting next to a middle aged lady at the game on Tuesday who came by herself from Japan just to watch Sho. She was telling me that Ohtani is her role model due to his dedication, humbleness, and thoughtfulness. Apparently a lot of people feel this way. He's almost too good to be true, and that contributes to his hobby appeal.

I sometimes go in my closet and pet my case of 2018 update hobby. Anyone that collected in 2018 is spoiled.

Given the ratings in , I assumed he's basically the national hero.

Are Ohtani cards at all time highs? Even with the insane pandemic run up?

I think the run-up you're referring to is his breakout MVP campaign, touted as the greatest sports season of all-time. Yeah, the pandemic happened around that time and everything else has fallen back to Earth except Sho.

That depends on the site. No doubt it was one of the great ones though.

Maybe but this kind of feels like uncharted territory. Ohtani really has unprecedented “star” power. Never been a player like this in the modern era + his fanbase in Japan is MASSIVE. Look at the 2023 WBC viewership numbers is Japan. “Japan’s World Baseball Classic win over Korea drew 62 million viewers in Japan alone” (https://www.nbcboston.com/news/sport...story/3002635/)

If he keeps up with his performance and avoids injury his prices will rise. And when big contract talks begins, should go even higher. Especially to a big market team.

When you can sell a non-licensed spectra SGC 10 for over 125 dlvd, that says a lot. I have 20 Ohtani RC cards at PSA and I have not even pulled the Topps update cards without the logo on them, like the hR run streak card.

I took the approach grade all Ohtani 2018 RC cards. They have all gone up and keep rising. Ride the wave and don’t look back.
