After the World Series, we'll hopefully get the decision from the arbitrator, then the rest of this will shake out as well.
It's all new territory, so it's impossible to know how the MLB side gets resolved at this point. Regardless of whether or not the full suspension is upheld or completely rescinded, it means little on the (current) legal side.

With a couple of rulings this week going against Bauer, this issue still looms very large this off-season for the Dodgers.
Unless the Dodgers have some inside information (and they might), the arbitration ruling has potential implications for the just completed 2022 season payroll as well as 2023. Obviously the Dodgers have the money to deal with whatever implications happen to be, but it's a lot easier to know what luxury tax bracket you're in. The Dodgers would love to have an answer ASAP on the arbitration ruling before they make any big splash signing (like Correa, Verlander or similar).

So here we are...the Dodgers clearly were navigating carefully around what became a precarious salary level.
Interesting indeed.

I assume they are going to release him. And then some other team will pick him up while the Dodgers pay for him. Maybe the Giants since they hate the Dodgers and keep losing out on free agents.

Whatever team that would pick him up would still have to explain why an independent arbiter felt a 194 game suspension was appropriate for his actions.

That's not really accurate. The arbiter did not levy a 194 game suspension. They took the 324 game suspension, shortened it, and reinstated him.

Exactly. He’ll get picked up because good pitching is hard to find. And he’ll be practically free.

I mean, has there been someone in MLB still able to pitch who hasn't been picked up after a DV suspension? I know the Yankees got a lot of crap for picking up Chapman, but they still did it and he was decent for years. And then he lost his marbles the end of this year.

If he comes back, he will be the obvious target for a lot of verbal abuse. But I could see him going to a smaller market like Royals, O's, or Rays and trying to fly under radar a bit. Those teams could be willing to trade the negative for a cheap contract.

There's no doubt he's an MLB all-star caliber pitcher, and league minimum is a tough salary to beat for that.

His time off isn't going much different than a pitcher who had Tommy John surgery in July of 2021. |

No MLB team picks up this guy. Korea, Japan or Mexican leagues for him.

The arbiter could have complete rescinded the suspension. He didn't. Dude got suspended nearly 200 games for being a sexual predator. Any team bringing that on has to answer for it. The Astros picked up Osuna and it wasn't really sustainable.

The arbiter could have deemed he was inappropriately suspended and he would have gotten all of his back pay. That didn't happen and he lost 194 games worth of salary. And any team picking him up has to answer for that. And "we want to win, we don't care if he's a sexual predator or not" is not a satisfactory answer for the vast majority of franchises.

It seems silly to state something so basic, but the arbitrator could have sided with Bauer and erased the suspension in its entirety. While Bauer obviously couldn't get those games back, he would get the pay for 192 games that he missed. That's what, $40 million? But I'll leave it to you to contort being penalized $40 million as vindication.

And unless we're just dumb or ignoring it at this point, Manfred's suspension was in part because it let the Dodgers off the hook monetarily. The whole thing's a joke. At least now some ........... .... ... .. . Vindication
