I honestly didn't know that could happen.... it doesn't make sense according to the formula.

(OPS / league OPS adjusted for ballpark) * 100

Even if his OPS was .000, his OPS+ should then be 0.

Its broken out into the components. 100 * (OBP/ OBPlg + SLG / SLGlg - 1) and then adjusted for ballpark. His wRC+ is also -10 on fangraphs.

yup, real formula has "-1" in there. MLB.com should update that

They probably figured nobody that bad would be in the majors, but it should probably be OPS/OPSlg to avoid negatives.

I guess you can still read it as the average AL hitter is 112% better than Aaron Hicks.

More good news on the injury front.

Reliever Lou Trivino, on the IL to start the season with an elbow sprain suffered in spring training, experienced a setback that could put his season in jeopardy. He felt discomfort in the injured elbow following a live session and is now scheduled to visit team doctor Christopher Ahmad. Trivino pitched well out of the bullpen after joining the Yankees as part of the Frankie Montas deadline deal, with a 1.66 ERA in 25 appearances, and will likely undergo tests to determine whether he will pitch this year.

Malloy was ejected from the game and started to walk toward home plate where Tampa pitching coach Gerardo Casadiego had run toward. Malloy talked to the umpire as Casadiego stood in front of his catcher. Malloy and the catcher appeared to have words before Casadiego interjected.

Malloy was then seen throwing a right hand at Casadiego and knocking the coach’s hat off. Malloy stepped back after the blow and Casadiego attempted to strike back but instead hit another Threshers player. Things took off and got even more wild from there. Minor league reporter John Brophy caught the brawl at the game.

Regression is already hitting Franchy Cordero hard

Cordero has been unplayable for several days now. His swinging strike and contact rates are starting to regress to his career norms. He has a 62.5 percent contact rate and a 18.2 percent SwStr% since April 13th, with a .111 OPS and a -83 wRC+ since that day.

For the season, he is sporting a 35.2 percent O-Swing%, which is the rate at which he swings at pitches outside of the zone. His career mark is 33.4 percent, so yes, he is expanding the zone quite a bit. He was making quite a bit of contact in the first few games of the year, but his contact rate is already at 68.5 percent, close to the 65.5 percent mark he has in his MLB tenure so far.

Perhaps most critically, the book is out on him: he still can’t hit breaking balls. His whiff rate against them this year is a mind-blowing 53.3 percent, and he has a .069 xwOBA against them.

What, you thought Cashman would actually go after him to begin with? We had the opportunity to upgrade the outfield in the off season. We picked up 2 washed up outfielders who had good springs, thought we found Matt Carpenter 2.0, and now after a good week or two, they've collapsed so we are stuck watching them and Hicks make outs.

I wouldn't be surprised if he seriously tried to. Pirates front office were pretty adamant about keeping him to try and extend him, even after he requested a trade.

For $13m AAV for the next 8 years, including a club option and no player opt out, I'd say the Pirates made the right decision.
