I got that kit and the humidor looks more like burl wood then that lighter color. It's much nicer in person. Get a digital hygrometer on Amazon and you're set.

Any recommendations on which of these to buy? you just place it in the humidor right? Sorry for all the questions I'm new to the humidor game and don't want to ruin the cigars! For the time being will the cigars be fine if I leave it in the humidor set as it stands without the hygrometer off amazon?

Read about seasoning a new humidor. You will do this before storing cigars. The humidor comes with a basic humidifier that you will put distilled water in as it drys out. You just want to make sure the humidity level stays in the 65%-70% range. You can't do this without a properly calibrated hygrometer. You could not do this, but when you put several hundreds of dollars worth of smokes in there, you don't want to ruin them, if to dry, they fall apart and taste bad. If to moist and hot, they are hard to keep lit and smoke and tobacco beetles can hatch inside the cigars. Feel free to ask questions, I am a novice but will help any way I can. This is what I use, it attaches to the lid of the humidor. http://www.amazon.com/Quality-Import...rds=Hygrometer

Search the site for starter set iv. They have it listed for $40 but there is a code in some car magazines and maybe retailmenot.com where you can get it for $30.
This would be a fantastic deal!>

I second that digital hygrometer. That is really all you will need for that part of things. FOr $20 or whatever it is, it does the trick.

In terms of what to use to make rh 70. There are many options. I use the sticks with crystals in them. I think Ping uses something different. A digital humidifier is ideal but will set you back about $100. If you are starting out and don't want that kind of initial investment I could certainly understand that. Also, if you are going to buy a smaller humidor (like a 25 cigar humidor) the digital humidifier may take up the space of 2-3 sticks. It really will inhibit what you can put in the humidor in terms of space.

So yesterday was my birthday. I decided to treat myself and try something that I had never tired before.

Please enter: A Fuente, Rosada Gran Reserva into the equation. This stick was through and through a 9.5 in my eyes. The flavor fit perfect with the steak and potato that I had for my birthday dinner.

I would recommend this stick to any cigar smoker who likes something a little on the bold side. Not so bold that a lightweight couldn't deal but certainly the qualities lend itself towards a bold stick. The Ash was an inch, inch-and-a-half long before it end began to fall.

I paid full retail for it at $11.50 but I would do it again if I were to be celebrating. It was better than the 1930 Sherman I had in celebration of my new job.

the tubes are a success. since ive been using them, my rh% has only fluctuated from 68-70% but it stays 69% consistently. these are worth the $10.

Yessir. I am a pretty big fan of these. Particularly for the price.

My father in law recently quit cigarettes and has moved to vaping and cigars. He doesn't have a humidor yet and is still trying to find a favorite cigar. Any suggestions on maybe a sampler that includes a humidor? Need to get him something for Christmas and figured he'd like this.

Two things,

I had an Oliva Saison yesterday. Great smoke. I got it as part of a sampler. I would smoke one again at a reasonable price.

This Morning while doing some work in the yard (laying paving stones) I had a Partagas 1845 that I got from the same sampler. Oh Man, I would buy these in bulk. This may have been a perfect smoke for what I had going on.

The 1875's are some nice smokes. You going to treat the humidor before ordering or do you have additional space in another humidor?

I don't have room for a box of 25 with my current humidor so I will season before I order some new sticks. The new humidor is only a 100 count and I'm already worrying about it being to small lol. I keep telling myself I won't stockpile hahaha.

From what I gather (and you have probably heard this too) the rule is to order a humidor twice the size of how many sticks you are going to stockpile.

When the montes come in I will be at capacity. That just means I will have a get together. I will leave the #2torpedos at hone though.

I have a humidor packed with cohibas, Arturo Fuentes and a handful of cheapies.

Also enjoy an occasional backwoods or al Capone sweet.

A nice brandy works for me when I smoke.

In the humidor keep your moisture up and keep rotating your cigars.

Anyone had success aging their cigars? I'm sure it's like scotch and stuff. Can't make a $15 bottle taste like $150.

Lol, my Romeo y Julietas came in too. Gonna rest them in the humidor for a few days before burning them. I also picked up another one of the samplers that I posted. Sold the humidor and kept the 10 cigars. Ha, life is good. Smoked a cohiba red dot after a delicious five guys dinner.
