I listened to Avenged Sevenfold. What happend to them? Did they get soft? I keep hearing people say they have changed for the worse. Thank you for the suggestion.

some others, in no particular order...
Queensryche: Operation Mindcrime
Dream Theater: Live Scenes From New York (I know, 3 disc copout )
Iron Maiden: 7th Son of a 7th Son
AC/DC Live (1992)
Rush: Hemispheres
Extreme: III sides to every story
Opeth: Ghost Reveries
Metal Church: Blessing in Disguise
Edguy: Mandrake
REM: Automatic for the People
Simon and Garfunkel: Bridge over Troubled Water
Soundgarden: Badmotorfinger
Hendrix: Are you Experienced?
I listened to Opeth: ghost Reveries. I liked that some of the songs were softer than just kicked into some heavy metal. I like his signing voice. Thank you.

Hate to list a "best of" album, but it's a great place to start if you haven't listened to a lot of Bowie.
I remember buying Changesbowie, which was his first mainstream "Best of" album. It got me hooked as a teenager on the genius that is David Bowie. The 2002 double-CD "Best of Bowie" is a top-notch compilation. It was so cool hearing him play "The Man Who Sold The World" after Kurt Cobain made it popular again in the 90's.

If you want something that is anti-establishment (ie. work) plus some pretty mean beats and a lot of CUSSING:
Rage Against the Machine - same title
It's more rapping vocals, but with a ton of metal influence including some awesome electric guitar. If you've never heard them before, I would suggest Bombtrack or Know Your Enemy as an intro song, should give you a good feel for the music. It's not for everyone and it's not to be played out loud at your desk with people around.

Andrew Bird: Armchair Apocrypha or Noble Beast

This guy is criminally underrated. I haven't heard his newer stuff but either of those albums is great and will grow on you.

Sheryl Crow by Sheryl Crow? It's a lot softer than 99% of this list...but I always liked it...fairly strong album all the way through.

Classic debut album, can listen straight through with really only 1 or 2 throwaway tracks.

In memory of Keith Emerson, you could go old school and listen to Emerson,Lake and Palmer's Brain Salad Surgery. Don't have time to see if anyone else suggested it...I'm at work.

AFI - Crash Love - Dark Punk Rock -
Nerf Herder - Any Album - Geek Rock - Some songs may not be work appropriate.

And for those days when you just want to smash something, might I recommend:
The Offspring - Smash

I'm a little stunned no one has said OK Computer by Radiohead.

Something off the radar you might like is Echolalia by Something For Kate.

That's me in the second picture! The outfit is a little tight these days, I split the crotch years ago- but I make do.

My contribution is Lenny Kravitz Greatest Hits, my favs are Let Love Rule and Believe; some of his other songs are decent but played out IMO
