The novelty.

No one is going to care about trading cards of stupid demonic-looking dolls in a few years, but the novelty and uncertainty of the first release can drive sales.

to be fair I only heard about these 6 months or so ago. They may have been around for 10 years but only recently became mainstream.

Fanatics perfected the scam distribution model. Offer under %10 to the public. Sneaker flippers and breakers swoop it all up. The big 3 pack %40 into their warehouses. Breakers take the last %50 and let the flippers do their magic pumping the secondary market.

TY was around for almost ten years too before Beanie Babies became huge. We all know how that played out and how quickly the fad fizzled.

Say you make $45 a box and sell all 10 to the same buyer. Slap a new label on the parcel Topps shipped to you. I mean thats about 3-5 minutes of work for $450 profit. Who wouldn't take that?

Yes, this makes more sense than to sell for a $5 profit like I have seen others do on other products. I always wondered if people just don't understand how ebay fees are calculated or just trying to get money back so they can pay off their CC debt.

The reports of their death have been greatly exaggerated.

Controlling price is key for fanatics

Only having a handful of places that can sell any real quanity

2-5x ing the price of everything.. people have no choice if they want it

Would be like if target amazon walmart were the only places that sold bread and milk .. then they raised the price of bread to 20 dollars

Two good rules of thumb are to buy only cards (or anything else) you wouldn't mind getting stuck with, and only at a price you're comfortable paying should you not be able to get anything back reselling the product.

The popularity of Labubu is driven largely by gimmicks and hype -- there is a lot of volatility in its market.

People will surely overpay for these. They'll be worth next to nothing in six months to a year after release date.

I just hate selling sealed wax for 2 reasons - 1. I sold a huge hit 2. More this one but buyer opens boxes doesn't get anything good then files a claim.

Just not worth a few bucks to me.

I've never had a buyer do that before. People do that?

I don't sell much wax, but never had that happen to me either. I guess its possible, just nothing I've run across.

I think it used to be a thing where people would try to scam you on ebay by buying sealed product and trying to return it but I haven't had any issues like that ever.

This is something that I worried about a lot in the past but now I rest easy knowing that the person buying my box(es) aren’t buying to open it for themselves. Online breakers couldn’t care less if anything good comes out because they make all their money up front. I haven’t really worried much about selling boxes over the past couple of years.

Never had that happen to me. I’ve had people attempt to “abuse” the system in their favor over the years though. Many stopped after I shared eBay’a definition of card condition (for those buying raws and only wanting gem mint cards) or if I said I’d be happy to call them at their home/work number (and send them a screenshot of their name/mailing address/phone number) to discuss the (bs) issue.

If it’s a genuine issue/mistake on my end though, I always own up to it. But if someone tries to game the system and screw me over, I fire with fire.

These days, probably less of that going on (opening a box and returning it) via eBay due to our cancel culture.

No, it’s not a thing. At least not common. I’ve never had it happen and I’ve sold a large amount of wax.

My family took 4 very good vacations this year completely from points and miles. If I gave a number for how much money I made from reward cards people wouldn’t believe me. If you are responsible everything you buy should be put on a rewards card. I have not used a debit card in over 20 years other than for the atm.

People aren't returning boxes after they open them and any decent site (ebay) will protect you against that.

Absolutely. Fraud/chargeback protection on a CC over a Debit is crazy, too. Banks don't care when it's your money.
