Probably an unpopular opinion but I always felt the F4 were a great comic that just doesn’t work in movie format.
Similar to how most great anime don’t work as live action.

Fantastic Four certainly hasn't worked so far, but the Jessica Alba version does have some fans, at least the first one.

On the other hand, this is the first FF movie that can use the full stable of Marvel Universe characters, so that should definitely help given, for instance, the many comic team ups of the Human Torch and Spidey, the classic Thing vs. Hulk battles, and Reed Richards' many interactions with the X-Men and Avengers, among others.

Another disappointing few weeks at the box office

Top 5 grossing movies are currently held by Japanese/Chinese films...with the surprise 6th entrant Dog Man, pulling in $68.8 million vs $40 million budget in just 2 weeks

Likely helps it's the only animated/kids movie that has been released so far

Likely though, despite bad reviews per usual, Captain America will probably vault to #1 worldwide easily this weekend

What’s the bad reviews look like? Just too much marvel?

Basically..

Action..Great

Story/Sincerity...not so much

Also..seems some have said they had a chance to "say something politically", but went soft and it basically went nowhere

Again though...depends how much weight you put on critics opinions; pretty sure it won't have any issue making $$$..probably just depends on your tolerance for Marvel

Mind numbing action. I’ll watch it when it’s free. Critics usually miss on the comedies I like, so I rarely give them any credit.

As someone who has no interest in comic books or movies derived from them, this is not a great era in larger budget films overall. Yes, there are other options out there but the reliance on tried n true formula is really tiring. Perhaps it has always been like this but now were just in a honeypot period of a genre that doesn’t interest me. It feels kinda like my dislike of monotone mumble rap.
Just shaking my fist in a general upward motion I guess.

With all the reshoots, Captain America needs a TON to break even. They sent it out to die. If they had confidence they would have put a superbowl ad out.

The reviews I watched said it’s very mediocre.

Why would they waste that much $$ on a Super Bowl ad when the movie releases a week later?

I get it..you hate everything but Japanese movies..cool..but that logic, whether the movie is good or bad...is just dumb

"Listed Budget" is $180 million...even the Eternals broke $400 million worldwide...

So again...the movie WILL MAKE $$...your rhetoric is just nonsense, whether you agree or not

I read that was the initial budget. Add on 4 rounds of reshoots. Either way, whatever.

As far as me, I love many movies. Thanks for putting words in my mouth though. I watch movies from all over the world, not just Hollywood.

Are they actual movie reviews from objective film critics or click-bait hot takes from middle-aged men angry that they aren't kids in the 1990's anymore made for other middle-aged men also angry that they aren't kids in the 1990's anymore?

I was listening to a review on the Big Picture podcast. They all agreed it was the worst Marvel movie to date and objectively one of the worst movies they have seen. Obviously fanboys don't care but it will be interesting to see the box office drop next week once word of mouth gets around. All three agreed that they'd much rather sit through Madame Web or Kraven the Hunter again then this movie. Thunderbolts sounds like it could be as bad or worse.

They were talking about how Disney has gotten away from using big name directors who have creative vision and going toward making every Marvel movie indistinguishable from the others to create a more uniformed universe. They were also half joking about Disney wanting to go towards AI generated films because they are just trying to plug and play the formula to everything.

I personally gave up on the MCU when Gunn left. I'm a bigger fan of the DC universe so I'm hoping he can bring some of that early MCU magic to the DC reboot. But this is all uncharted territory. There are 34 MCU movies so far and a lot more to come unless they decide to pull the plug. The idea that people have time to watch that many movies and all the series that you need to in order to know what's going on is crazy. Kids that are new to it have to go back and watch everything including a lot of bad movies and series if they want to get the entire story. It always seemed unsustainable to me.

I don't think it's necessarily the choice in directors...

I mean..what exactly had James Gunn directed before Guardians? The cult classic Slither...that's it..

Coogler for Black Panther, only had Creed under his belt..

Jon Watts before taking on Spider-Man? Yeah..nothing..

I definitely agree that since End Game, the "overall story" has been uninspired...and it certainly didn't help when they had to shift plans from Kang due to Majors legal troubles...

I also agree that fatigue has probably set in...and definitely if you haven't been watching from the start, it's a lot to take in...matter of fact my daughter said her and her mom had seen a few movies, but wanted to go in order to get caught up and stopped 4 movies in...lol

I think the impending Fantastic Four and eventual X Men will be a precursor to how far they will go

Especially seeing how the Blade reboot seems to have effectively been scrapped at this point

Box office does not correlate much to film quality tbh
It’s like the Grammys and RR HOF

Americans have proven their bad taste repeatedly in in the arts, especially more recently.

Coogler did Fruitvale Station and Creed which were both huge critical successes and he was being pushed as one of the next big Hollywood directors when he got Black Panther. They were talking about those guys and also Sam Raimi and Taika Waititi. Some had bigger resumes then others before the MCU but they are all auteurs that have distinctive styles and Disney/Marvel gave them all freedom to make their version of an MCU movie. And now they seem more interested in having every movie just be about the movie and not about the director.

Captain America in particular did seem to have a lot of issues that hurt it. I think they did 3 reshoots after bad audience previews. It has 5 people with screenwriting credits which isn't usually a good sign.

I hope they get the big stuff right like X Men, Avengers and Secret Wars. There are at least 3 existing X Men movies that I have trouble thinking the current MCU could top and when they reboot it they have to at least match the existing movies. Secret Wars was my favorite Marvel storyline when I was kid and 10 years ago I would have been pretty excited for the movies. Now I just hope they don't screw it up.

Think you need to re-read my posts...never "endorsed" the movie or said it was good or bad...or that box office indicates that

The " box office" numbers I posted..are WORLDWIDE numbers...so your American dig is irrelevant

And I said the movie received bad reviews...but also said it shouldn't have any issue making $$ despite, whether it was bad movie or not..

And even that was in rebuttal to a post that they needed a ton of $$ to break even and they "sent it out to die"

And..here it is..with technically 2 more days of weekend ( Mondays holiday) and it's already "broke even" at $180.9 million

I do expect a huge drop-off in week 2, due to reviews and doubt people want to revisit it..and will likely get forgotten about until...maybe the Looney Tunes movie?

After the superb film that "The Flash" ended up being, despite all the naysayers coupled with its underwhelming box office, I've 100% stopped caring about anything anyone says about super-hero movies. It's the same as with horror movies, which I already haven't been reading reviews of for decades. The recent "Exorcist" movie, though widely derided, was also excellent.

Those two genres in particular are completely "eye of the beholder" material, so I don't waste time reading reviews for either, since most "film" reviewers don't like super-hero and (especially) horror movies to begin with.

It will make money but I heard they need to make about $800 million to break even. Budget reportedly went up to around $300 million with reshoots and they spent hunreds of millions on marketing.

The budget of $300 million was based on a tweet from a random account which has no real insight into the budget. The budget that has been reported by multiple trades is closed to $180 million before product placement and tax credits (for example, GM and Peloton). $400 million should put it at break even.

Unless it really falls of I’d have to assume this makes money.
