Exactly.

I don’t think anyone is claiming Tatum is on the level of Kobe or that he is a top five player of all time. People are just saying that Tatum isn’t the bench warmer that some people seem to be making him out to be.

Yeah, he’s at least Jaylen Brown’s Pippen.

Can someone please tell all these ebay buyers that Tatum is the 4th best Celtic so I can pick up a few of his auto's on the cheap?

Without Tatum, the Celtics would lose against top teams. They need his length for instant baskets and for certain defensive matchups. Kind of like what Siakam became on Pacers, but way more versatile.

He's an important piece no doubt, just nothing like what he was hyped to be. Siakam is a good comparison.

Sometimes the best players dont have the best games.

Sometimes the best team doesnt win.

Nobody is saying he is a bench warmer

I just don't think he is top 5 player in the league. Top 10 I'll give but not top 5.

As a Mavs fan, I fear the ball with Brown more than Tatum.

What he says and what he does it 2 different things. He is doubling Tatum most of the game.

Exactly. Great teams win champioships not great players. Mavs have the best player on the planet and that will be nothing but a consolation prize

Luka is the best player on the planet?!

Every point that he scores, he gives up on the defensive end.

Might as well call him Isaiah Thomas.

Best player according to everyone here. Best offensive player is more accurate. But he'll need a very specific roster around him to win a title and this isn't it

Case in point: Luka was -3 last night.

Actually Nesmith is a direct protege of and contributor to the Jaylen Brown approach to basketball. Not coincidentally he sparred with Brown man-to-man for two years straight in practices (dig deep into the easter everyday aha! moment) and was rewarded by getting traded to an in-it-to-win-it rebuild team coached by a former Celtics legend.)

A very similar dynamic to what you're seeing with Tatum and Brown occurred when the Celtics mounted a 38 point second half comeback in a 20-21 Spurs game where Tatum was kind of chatting it up with officials, having given up. Brad Stevens saw that and put hungry Nesmith in (he was only getting garbage minutes and the Js were playing keep the ball away from crash at that point) and he and Brown put on an extreme clinic that mirrored 3 of the Celtics' comebacks against the Pacers in the ECF. I think that Tatum actually got so energized that he had a pivotal role in 4th quarter and earned the game ball for his son.

Admittedly, Aaron is no Jaylen. But his prices are/were similarly static and depressed for years. And Indy, if they stay on Boston's growth track (maybe not possible, given the budget differences, they basically need to bat a thousand with picks and find a way to retain Nembhard) should win a ring in 4 years.

Tatum lost me when he appeared on Frito Lay products. Least healthy food ever. But something about his blandness reassures me. When they asked him, is being a superstar in the league everything you expected and hoped it would be? He mused contentedly for a couple seconds and then smiled and said "yes." It was like an anti Brunson "did we win a ring?" moment.

I don't know - I feel like it has gotten more desperate in the last two years after the market bubble
