I am still out on him and didn't see enough of him to make any conclusions myself. I think he won't be an instant starter no matter what, but someone will take a shot on him rd 2
Better take.

@ Maryland - 141 yards
Ohio State - 148 yards
Iowa - 147 yards
Washington - 140 yards

(go ahead.... bring up the Alabama game where he actually manage to break the 200 yard barrier.... )

But he's gonna crush his interviews!

ok, ok, all kidding aside, let me put my nice guy hat back on.... I am not going to seriously predict where he gets drafted because all it takes is one stupid and desperate team. I mean, Tim Tebow was a 1st rounder because of one stupid and desperate team. Johnny Manziel was a 1st rounder because of one stupid and desperate team. I called both those guys day 3 picks and while my evaluation of their talent was right (if anything I was generous), I underestimated the power of stupid, desperate teams.

But I will say the same thing about McCarthy that I said 12 months ago about Bennett: He is not NFL starting QB caliber. He may fool a stupid and desperate team into drafting him early, but he ain't going to be fooling any NFL defenses.

You highlighted 3 games he played on 1 leg. He also plays on a run first team and sat out the 4th quarter of at least 7 games this year so he doesn't put up video game numbers. He has been mocked by drafts as high as a top 10 pick because he is isn't getting by on being a guy in a air raid system. Also Michigan WR's while okay, are not NFL caliber at getting separation or winning 50/50 balls. He throw's a great ball with a high completion percentage, he is going to be just fine in the league.

McCarthy goes third round. I’ll take that bet if FanDuel offers it up

He isn’t going first. That’s crazy town

You're absolutely right - he played on a run first team.

There's a reason for that.

He’ll be a backup wherever he goes.

Absolutely I am hedging because, as I explained, you never know what stupid, desperate teams are going to do.

His talent is day 3 caliber and you can take that to the bank - but I am not responsible for predicting the actions of stupid, desperate teams.

+1 +1 +1

Career backup. There's no shame in that, but wise teams do not draft career backups on day 1 or day 2.

Day 2 draft pick. I don’t see any team with needs selecting JJ in the first 2 rounds.

Right. I think the truth is somewhere between the “good take” and the “bad take” above.

Agree 100%. I don't have a crystal ball to know what he's going to do long term, but I have not seen enough from him as of now to merit a high pick.

Now Bo Nix on the other hand, he's going to be a steal for someone. That guy is gonna be money (fingers crossed he goes to Denver and Payton turns him into the next Brees)
