Anyone listen to Cards to the Moon? Listened to a couple episodes and just seems like guys talking cards. No pumping, arrogance, or lack of knowledge. I’ve enjoyed it thus far.

I don’t watch any other creators unless they are active here.

Honestly if they don’t post here they probably aren’t very savvy or have historically knowledge worth sharing

Why don't they just admit this? Every live show of theirs features Goldin Marketplace auctions. Do they have an NDA with Goldin or something? It's so weird.

I think most hobby content creators have something to offer. The problem is trying to filter out the mediocre stuff. I have no problem with paid sponsorships, but I want a content creator to be upfront about it.

I tried them but still too raw for me. They struggle with some basic things. For example they miss stated PSA grading cost and recent turn times. Also stated that PSA was toughest on centering vs the other 3 criteria. Things like this turned me off. Though I agree they don’t pump and push an agenda.

Sounds like SCN might be off the ringer come mid Feb but maintaining a pod cast. If so, I hope they use this as an opportunity to improve the show.

I just listened to latest SCN where they were talking about their end date with the Ringer. I doubt they are going to renew the show. I don't think they're big enough to generate enough income from a podcast without the Ringer/Spotify and they don't seem like people that would do it if they arent making money from it.

It's obvious they've received compensation -- whether that is a line of credit, lump sum payment, or ongoing "sponsorship" payments for displaying and promoting the Goldin Marketplace.

Suspect they don't mention it as it would be naked hypocrisy and crater their views/page hits. The mouthy one, Colin, has openly stated many times they would sell out to the highest bidder. It's also clear they have little to no actual sports knowledge given some of their "takes". For example, Ryan doesn't know the difference between the Chicago Blackhawks and Ottawa Senators logo.

Super weird (but not surprising) they impugn the integrity of others while operating such a low integrity channel/business.

It really doesn’t fit The Ringer branding model. It never did, but now in a down market where SCN needs the pod to promote their Whatnot, breaks, etc. while keeping a good relationship with Fanatics, it doesn’t really make sense for them to be on The Ringer. SCN was the only pod on there where the hosts were actively using it as a promotional tool for their real business.

If it's true they don't admit it because it would alienate their viewers, they must think their viewers are dumb. They make sure to always intersperse Goldin Marketplace listings throughout their streams. It's clear they have some agreement with Goldin to do this.

I have nothing against paid sponsorships as long as they are disclosed. But to blatantly market a service to your viewers, and act like they don't know what you're doing, is insulting.

I gave the most recent SCN a listen to see if they had found their “podcast voice.” Sounds as awful as the last time I listened. A good chunk of time was devoted to the one guy making fun of the other - lots of jokes insinuating that he was a pedophile because of his mustache.

I think they might have talked about cards?

This is one of the main problems with the show. They think they are early 2000's morning zoo radio jocks or something. The beauty of pod casts is that they stay on point. I do not want to listen about Seinfeld, the Office, Mike's new baby or what they had for dinner last night. Stick to cards and drop the dumb banter. I think they have mailed it in at this point.

Wonder if the big guy can get his job at IBM back? And maybe the other one can buy his breaker business back if he didn’t lose too much on ethereum and Durant Topps Chrome rookies.

Yeah, the quick flip to a weekly Goldin advertisement, while purging all their previous videos/stories was interesting.

To me, the beauty of podcasts is that we can have multiple kinds. I would absolutely hate listening to a podcast that was too much on point with no banter. All of the ones I actively listen to across genres have all been criticized at some point for having too much banter. If I want pure info or analysis, I'll read something instead of turning to a podcast.

Banter is fine, provided the hosts are knowledgeable about the sports and products they talk about. It would also help to come across as remotely likable, which the one dude is not at all IMO.

They are 100% compromised. They need to cool it and be forthcoming about the partnership with Goldin or their dirty secrets might find the light of day.

Default Ideas?

Going into 2024 I would love to know what you all want the content to be surrounding? Would love ideas and could use them. Certain guests, I prefer guests because literally everyone knows more about cards than I, even after six years back in the fold, anyone in particular you’d like to hear from? Appreciate any feedback!

I’ll try to avoid specifics because it’s your pod and you need to your thing, ya know? Personally, I would try to avoid it being about “the market”.

There’s a great comic book podcast called iFanboy (they hate the name too) and they discuss the new comics that come out each week. But they NEVER discuss comics as collectibles. They don’t talk about the market, the value of comics, recent sales, there’s very little “industry news”. They just talk about the art of it. The visuals and the writing… the content. I don’t think it’s as easily avoidable for sports cards, but I would try my best to not get into the petty squabbles of grading, breakers, auctions houses, etc. There’s other people covering that, and it’s not compelling to listen to except for a few people who may happen to fell the exact way you do on those topics. You’re limiting your audience.

I would be interested in a podcast that takes a new set release and looks at the content of it. The design, the photos used, the inserts. Maybe give some historical perspective to it. Maybe interview a current or former graphic designer at Topps.

SCN started their pod focused on the value of cards and tracking base PSA 10’s and looking for cards that could go up in value. When the market tanked, they didn’t have a plan and still trying to figure out what their pod is now.

SCR seems like it’s for angry people who want to “go after” the people they don’t like in the hobby. I have no interest in being a part of that.

The pods you hear people praising and recommending here avoid all that.

So, I don’t know, you’ll have to figure this all out for yourself. These are just my thoughts. Good luck!

Here is a link to my podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/s...n-baseball-fan

A few notes:

1) It isn't so much of a podcast, as it is me walking around my neighborhood recording myself talking about things in the hobby (and particularly things I've learned or things I've picked up for my collection, etc.) It is exactly the opposite of high quality LOL

2) It is also very sporadic. We've had a super hard past couple of years, so it is tough to stay on top of it. It may be worth it to start at the beginning, as it begins before covid, and all the way through it.

Big fan of discussions with collectors about why they collect what they collect.

For example, I'm a big fan of game dated cards and any cards that incorporate my local area (Orange County).

As MarlinsMan mentioned, less about "investments" or market values etc...you've done a nice job of speaking out against that type of collecting. Thought the recent episode about collector debt was prescient...even if many would never admit it. I do love me some hobby chisme so please continue discussing scandals and frauds when they arise.

You already had the board favorite DantheCardMan on...so more with people like him, please.
