And these push ups, not push pops, right?

I’m just happy to be well on my way towards my 2023 goal of moving 15,000,000lbs at the gym this year. (It’s mainly an incentive to never forget legs, since I move 2-3x more weight on those days.)

Leg press machine is like cheating though when it comes to counting volume.

Example: 5 sets. 15 reps. 500lbs.

That's 37,500lbs moved right there. Seated calf raises with 20-50 reps? If you add it up, a hard Leg Day can net you 100,000lbs moved.

Well, I made 16 nights into 2023 before another bout of insomnia hit. I eventually got to sleep, but it looks like I'll be hitting the gym this evening (when it's crowded ) rather than early morning.

I'm just particularly happy that you are not foregoing leg day.

Late to the thread, but catching up. I don't workout in a traditional gym with weights. I've been doing Row House for a couple of years (class types vary and mix in body weight exercises and some light dumbbells in addition to the rower). I also started doing Orange Theory once a week toward the end of last year.

Goals for this year to drop a few pounds. (lost a touch over 20 in the last few months of last year. Would like to drop another 10-15 to get to about 205.)
Also want to row 1,000,000 meters this year. Hit my 2 million milestone on 12/29, want to hit 3,000,000 milestone this year.

Trying to put more work in on my overhead barbell press. Ever since I started taking legs seriously around the start of COVID, the shoulder portion of my lifts has kind of dropped out. Legs, back, chest, core, biceps, triceps.....shoulders started getting the short end of the stick.

Now I'm a bit over 200lbs but I'm stalling out pressing 140lbs overhead. I'm thinking my chest might be tight and not allowing my shoulders to keep the weight as directly in line as it should be.

Welcome!

Never heard of Row House but now I've got to Google it.

Also, I really want to know—Is Orange Theory a cult? We've got one here in Tempe and with the way I see the promoters acting on campus trying to recruit students, I am very curious to hear about what it's like on the inside.

I only heard of Row House because it opened up right next to my office a little before the pandemic. I called and asked about it because I hadn't been going to a gym and needed something. Rowing is great for me because it's very low impact and I have knee troubles and it's a pretty full body workout. They say rowing uses 86% of your muscles.

Orange Theory is definitely cult-ish. I feel like an outsider sometimes and don't understand half their lingo. But I like having guided class based workouts to help keep me accountable and to get some form corrections or alternate exercises when something doesn't feel right. And going once a week is a nice change from rowing to hit some other muscle groups.

Looks like the nearest Row House to me is in Scottsdale. Fancy town. Still, it looks like a great way to burn a few hundreds calories without getting bored.

One thing I've been doing this year to make sure I keep progressing with my lifts is I made a chart based on the data at Strength Level. Every time I reach a higher weight, I fill in those squares and add the date. It makes me feel like I'm actually increasing my power levels or something.

(And before anyone critiques the weight classifications, it's based on 93,000,000 publicly logged lifts. So it's coming from people all across the fitness spectrum and not actually weighted towards what Olympic powerlifters are doing.)

Yeah, they definitely have a strong following! We also have Barry's up here that is very popular.

I've tried out Orange Theory before and it's not just my cup of tea. 2/3 of the workout was just intervals on the rowing machine and treadmill.

Deadlifting in an empty gym is a special kind of peace.

I've learned that doing any kind of work out when nobody else is around is special. I love going to run hills early on Sunday mornings at our rec complex for that reason. I usually run hills for about an hour, then walk the nature trail around the pond to cool down.

Hill runs for an hour?

You really are hardcore. Or maybe a masochist. Either way, that's impressive.

When I first started this, I wasn't able to run at all. It was hell, I would do maybe 100 yards and feel like I was about to die. Now I find it peaceful to go run. There is a great hill out there to run, it's about 100 yards bottom to top. When I'm feeling really good, I do the steep hill behind one of the ballfields.

I know some of you can blow this out of the water, but for someone who grew up playing soccer and running marathons, moving 700lbs for reps felt nice.

(Still working my way up on squat, right knee doesn’t quite have the stability I’d like.)

From years of running my legs are strong as hell but look like twigs. Whenever people go between sets with me with leg machines have to drop the weight and take a double glance at my legs.

I don't think it is impressive moving 700 lbs with the eye candy in front of you. I am putting an asterisk by that number.

Today I had a girl playing strip lifting next to me today. After every set an article of clothing came off.
