You know what I think gonna happen in offseason. Neshard gonna school incoming on their style of defense so they can drive the offense next year. There is a really good article got me thinking about this in the Indy Star. Has anyone in this forum spent any time at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse? Do they have a small museum for jerseys and current Pacers memorabilia? Or what place is like that in Indy. Last edited by Nomad; 04-07-2023 at 01:46 AM. |

Buddy's serenading might just be the highlight of this franchise's season. Scratch that. It absolutely is.
What an absolute mellifluous riff. Like a soulful meld of David Ruffin and IceJJFish. My Raycons nearly climaxed.

They don't have a "museum", but they have plenty of cases displaying old school Pacers historical aspects. Jerseys, images, balls, etc. The Pacers have a rich ABA history and they try and put that on full display. The entryway looks almost like an old school train station. Just a really cool place to go walk around and take in the sites. Last edited by indyguy; 04-07-2023 at 07:12 AM. |

I still have that to thank for complete Chet Baker 1958-66 and the Complete Bird Verve Sessions. But anyway now I rarely listen to music beyond the familiar improv.
What I want to ask, to rephrase, is there a like space in Indianapolis or further out that could be a showcase for a nearly complete run through of 2020-21 Panini designs (funnily, missing Spectra) through the arc of Nesmith? Includes 6 1-1s, 8 jersey numbers, dozens of gods and variations. Oh and the elusive 75/75 75th Anniversary Prizm. See the capacitor photo on flux thread for vision of what one segment of the tour could look like. And you know at the end the collection would be auctioned for whatever good purpose. I remember about 6 months before they did it, I mused on BO that Panini might want to think of a /75 serial number tie in, and they did it. But not the way I was envisioning it. I was thinking like a large birthday cake candle number in the size of a brand on each card. That would have been great. May have to start my own card company.... ursfing? #75th Anniversary Splatter #Notion of Matter #Send to yo fadda #Whole Lotta Yada #baby yada #yada #brada Last edited by Nomad; 04-08-2023 at 03:30 AM. |

Super interesting article on Pacers season by Bob Kravitz in The Athletic.
"Pacers’ rebuilding year wasn’t so bad. It was kind of fun … and necessary" ... And yet, this hasn’t been one of those no-account seasons you just consign to the lockbox of history. The Pacers finished 35-47 after Sunday’s road victory over the New York Knicks — “We didn’t tank against the Knicks,” Rick Carlisle said Monday during the team’s postseason availability — and while Indiana isn’t going to the playoffs for the third season in a row, you got a sense all year this is a team going places. Eventually. Maybe as soon as next year. ... In the end, though, they didn’t lose quite enough. The Pacers have assiduously avoided major-league tanking for several decides — to their credit and their demerit — and even when it was far better to lose to the Knicks in the season finale, they went ahead and won. Had they lost, they could have had the league’s sixth-best odds to win the NBA Lottery (Victor Wembanyama) or earn a top-4 pick. As it stands, they are tied with Washington for seventh worst and will learn their fate from the NBA at a later date. If that’s tanking — OK, it is tanking — it’s a very palatable form of tanking. What the Dallas Mavericks did this weekend, pooch-punting their final regular-season game by benching most of the starters and openly talking about the desire to tank, that’s a problem. The first rule of tanking club is nobody talks about tanking club. Mark Cuban, one of the best and coolest owners in sports, said the quiet part out loud, and I guarantee you Adam Silver is listening and calculating an appropriate fine." |

I'm gonna get this going just for observations on what I think will be the Pacers' actual miracle season.
First, off Tony East runs down effects of the Pacers draft and identifies Aaron Nesmith as the biggest winner (12:00). Still the starting 3. People still don't quite realize how foundational he is to what coach Carlyle is building. Jarace Walker is giving me Robert Williams vibes TBH (without the wingspan but hopefully less injury prone). I love the pick of a defensive big man and it was sheer genius to get two second round picks in the process. Interesting that beef stew-compared Walker cites the Tatum/Brown combo as his inspiration. It's super interesting to see the entire rookie class of 20-21 join the Pacers.
Tyrese Haliburton Aaron Nesmith Obi Toppin Jordan Nwora Jalen Smith I think we have to put them in that order (maybe switch Toppin and Nwora) in the context of the Pacers in 2023, even if the hobby doesn't really differentiate #2-5. As Tony East describes it, Toppin (on a rookie scale contract) for two 2nd round picks was a major win for the cap-comfortable Pacers. Knicks needed to slash luxury. Duarte to Sac in return for trade considerations gotta excite fans a little. Sac has a little room for him to flourish as a 3 (he wasn't getting Aaron's minutes). His rookie year was impressive. Really interesting conversation Tony East has going about minutes for each player on the roster on opening day. Would have been surprised like 3 months ago that Nembhard I believe surpasses Math in the equation. But given how last month and SL went, surprised that Math still gets a solid 24 minutes, while Nesmith (by Tony's calculations) merits 10 and the other "bad hair" dude says 14. I mean, Theis-level benchwarmer status.
But then you realize its like arch comedy, cause eventually East busts out when they try in vain to find a couple more minutes for crash, "or we could consider adding the 4 to his repertoire." Oh and—controversy, for sure—McConnell gets zero minutes. Now the clcting relevant question: should this discussion be pertinent to actual prices in the bball card market? Should and could in a well functioning market, or at least inform collector purchasing decisions. But actually Math will still be priced ahead in five months, performance irregardless. The "ceiling" word. Last edited by Nomad; 07-28-2023 at 09:48 PM. |

I don't think it's that. The Pacers are loaded. And yeah he is a way bigger part of the machine than most people realize. But yeah, the Pacers go on to wildly outperform and I will still eat shoot from random people. I can't go back and look up all your wrong predictions.

Having avoided the ongoing "process" debacle in Philly, it seems like the definition a long, excruciating rebuild. The Pacers threw out everyone except TJ and Miles a year and a half ago.
It will be a very strong package, and likely the best they will have for a long time (with all the rookie contracts, etc., aligned). So let's call it a "window" and snap on the safety belts. Last edited by Nomad; 08-08-2023 at 04:50 AM. |

Hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me for my 'modern day Kangz' mothman prophecies.
I was yung, dumb, and full of rum. Vandross' eternal spiral feels like some type of twisted cosmic retribution for my Kneesmiff transgressions. ![]()

Nah we all good. And anyway, we take it out on the b-ball floor. May the best team win.
I actually liked this thread before I let a couple people Kneesmiff me and it derailed. The old Blowout camaraderie. |
