Specifically stated KD's a far greater talent and more decorated than Melo could ever dream of being.

This is strictly from a casuals perspective in terms of general likability and optics. He's literally become an NBA meme for middle school cognitive dissonance. And it's not in the funny, endearing Barkley sense either.

Plus it's difficult to pinpoint any of his legacy plays/moments.

Unfortunately he'll probably be closer to a Mailman than he will Bird in 30 years. Everything great he did will always be qualified with a personality asterisk.

Casuals don't NBA-meme, I think you have to get out of your reddit/discord circles.

Saw massive, massive love for KD at Fanatics Fest.

Malone never won anything and made pedo jokes about his teammates' wives/gfs. Not remotely similar.

Not being beloved in a city as Larry Frickin' Bird is a pretty high bar, my man. Pretty damn high.

Going to the Rockets just made it more likely he passes Kobe and MJ on the scoring list.

What's great about KD is he makes a clear mark on the all time list between the guys with the greatest talent and the guys with the greatest talent + the intangibles.

Everybody above him was a clear centerpiece on multiple title winners. (I have KD at 13th btw).

I hope nobody takes that as a slight to KD.

You're saying he was the GOAT second. Above Pippen? Shaq?

Melo is washed by the time he's 35

Edit, the lasr year he averaged more than 20 points was on 2016 which means he's 33 years old. Durant is 37 years old averaging 27ppg with 6 rebounds. Don't compare him to the likes of melo

Reading is fundamental. They're nowhere near the same tier as players. But KD has done so much to incur negative karma through his twitter fingers and aloofness in pressers to close that gap.

He's the antonym of aura farming.

Like I said, he'll be closer to Malone in terms of general perception in 30 years than he will to Larry Legend. Despite the fact his skillset and accomplishments are way closer to the latter.

I beg to differ. In 30 years people wont remember his social media drama and jumping ship to GSW and truly remember him for who he is, which is walking bucket.. Don't compare him to child molester in Malone

So people will suffer definite amnesia when it comes to a decade worth of KD unlikability, but have everlasting memories of Karl Sandusky's pr3d highlight?

Those Men in Black cameras sure are wild. And selectively effective.

Yeah, I don't know how KD's "unlikability" rates even close to what Karl Malone did

It doesn’t matter if you’re unlikable or really unlikable you’re still not being collected. There does become a point where you’re really really super unlikable and people start collecting you again. So still hope

^^ this guy gets it.

Some of you are just making nuanced arguments.

Sure there's levels, but at the core of it lies the same issue. Stupid/Bad decisions = negative connotations. Repeated stupid/bad decisions = tattoo'd scarlet letters.

I guess there's no real correct answer to this topic since none of us has a crystal ball. Bump it in 30 years when half us have kicked the can.
