I collect both modern and vintage. I don't tie up all my money in one player. Oh yeah, I also collect what I want, without "investing" on my mind. If I were to pick up five cards before it's too late, my list would look something like this:
(All PSA Graded) -1939 Play Ball Ted Williams RC -1951 Bowman Willie Mays RC -1954 Topps Hank Aaron RC -1979 Topps / O-Pee-Chee Wayne Gretzky RC (I know they've gone up A LOT) -1986 Fleer Michael Jordan RC I would buy the best looking card I could get within a reasonable price range, depending on the grade. I have all the cards I listed except the Hank Aaron RC. I will pick one up someday, and it will cost a lot more than if I were to purchase it right now. I say buy what you want, like Mook Man, Ron-Bone, Juanny Baseball, LeBron, Golden Boy Brady, The Fish, etc... there are many ways that are just fine in purchasing sports cards. Just my opinion.

I would now like to add Juan Soto’s 2018 Topps Dynasty RC to the list. I have a feeling in a few years, it’s going to be extremely desired due to the low total print run, on-card auto, jersey patch, and overall appealing look.
In the basketball collecting world, National Treasure RPA’s (Rookie Patch Auto) are very desired and worth crazy money. Let’s just say Luka Doncic’s 2018 National Treasure RPA RC /99 (BGS 9) recently sold for $200,000! In my opinion, Topps Dynasty RPA’s are about equivalent to National Treasures RPA’s. I don’t think they’re going to sell anywhere close to what National Treasure RPA’s sell for.. but 50% isn’t far fetched. I also look at Juan Soto to be the baseball version of Luka Doncic.

For those of you under 35 the white sox were as hot a logo as any in the country after they switched in 1990 w/the new stadium. Celebrities+rappers love the logo, and you're going to see all kinds of media coverage for the team and thus interest in the cards. Eloy, Robert, La Russa, Tim Anderson, Abreu. It will be up there w/lakers stuff as the best selling in sports all year. |
