Exciting way to wrap up a week of football with some awful clock management! That brings us to a 4 week tie for week 1 and a carryover to week 2.

Week 1 - SteelPen2, Mt12742, jetscollector10, Blackandgold

You are correct. The list didn't sort properly and I was seeing the second spot with 14 right.

Correction. Tie for week 2 will carry over to week 3. Eckstein was paid already, so I'll deal with that when the tiebreaker is done.

Week 2 - Eckstein197/mrknicks

So I just had a thought. In the event that something crazy happens this fall/winter with Covid and the NFL stops playing, we need to figure out how payments will be settled. I've got 2 options that come to mind.

1. The leader in correct picks gets the remaining pot if the season is cancelled.
2. The remaining weekly payouts get distributed evenly to the winners of weeks that were actually played and the remaining funds are paid out to the person with the most correct picks.

Thoughts?

a couple of thoughts here....

only thing i do not like about your ideas is the fact that we did get cut short (if that actually happens) and would not have had a full chance to complete the season.

we entered based on this premise (per op)

20 players x $20 = $400 pool
17 weeks = 17 winners @ $20 each = $340
Overall winner takes home $60 that is left over from the weekly prize pool.

no "back up" plans were presented, probably because just did not think about it.

for this example - let's say we complete exactly half of the season when this happens

whatever money you have left at that point rolls over to next year.

- if people want to play next year, their entry would be half price (since that is what we have left)

- if people do not want that option, they could get a pro-rated refunded

for the record, i would be in the first category, and more than likely would just end up paying the full fee next year to increase the pot that little bit more.

Good thoughts Glen! I'm open to everyones feedback on this and want to do what the group feels best. So everyone that sees this chain, please weigh in on what you would like to see happen in the event that the season goes belly up.

i guess the main issue i have is, even though there is a lot of luck involved in this, there is a bit of strategy that can be used down the stretch and you can plan for it.

what i mean is, say it is week 14 and you are in 2nd or 3rd place, down 3 points. you can look at the games in those last few weeks and try to "strategically" make some underdog picks that go against the grain to try and catch up.

with an abrupt end, that option is taken away.

just using this week as an example...

here are the games with at least 95% of the picks for one team

TB 95% - LAC 5%
GB 97% - ATL 3%
BALT 98% - WASH 2%
SEA 98% - MIA 2%
LAR 99% NYG 1%

if this were the final week, those are games you could look at to try and use to make up ground.

agree, but unfortunately, that would be out of anyones control....

I vote for the whatever weeks are completed are paid out, if there is still a 2,3,4,5 way tie for a week, that week gets divided as evenly as possible.

Overall winner gets the $60, and remaining money is either put to next year or prorated refund (although that means a lot of extra paperwork for the host)

I would say option 2, but i'm good either way. If ppl are going to have a fit about a shorten season and their $21 entry fee....they got bigger problems i guess.

I think this is the best approach. $60 to the overall leader at whatever point the season gets cancelled. For the remaining funds, I would opt for the pro-rated refund for the remaining weekly funds. This is the opinion of someone who won't have to be the one to send a payment to 20 different people, so take that for what it is.

It's also unlikely to be more than $10 per person anyways, so if we decide to roll it over to next year, or pay it to this year's winners in any of the ways pskell02 mentioned, I'm not gonna sweat it.
