This thread made me realize I need to start scanning stuff. I've been working on the Bagwell RC run in PSA9 thanks to the low pops on the Bowman and Studio.

I'm still looking for a gradable 1992 Fleer Update (Pop 0) but I do have a 1992 Donruss Rookies Jeff Frye in a PSA 10 (thanks mcholke) It's Pop 2.

I see you PC Jeff Frye, unless you are him, that is digging deep!

Keep up the scanning! Not sure what you are using to scan, but you can check the guide out in the link in my signature for some tips.

I have a really crappy all in one. I need to invest in a decent scanner but there are just so many cards to buy lol. I'll check out the tips though to see if they will help at all.

I'm not Jeff but I've been friends with him since he did some card show signings for us back in 1991.

From the scans (and you mentioning you have an all in one) it looks like you have a CIS type scanner. It will produce blurry scans no matter what (unless you are scanning raw cards). Read the first section in my guide for some direction. You would be looking for a CCD type scanner.

Yeah. I've looked at them a few times. I just need to bite the bullet and buy one.

Epson V600 is my recommended model. Runs $230 and is on back order at a number of stores now (as it has been on and off lately).

Yeah. I've been looking at the V600. I've got some credit card rebate offers that would get me one for $229 shipped. Guess I need to just bite the bullet and order it. I wish there was a cheaper option because I only buy 10 or 15 slabs a year but it is what it is.

Look into the V370 if you want cheaper. It scans great as well

Any major differences in the v370 and the v600? It's only $30 difference for the v600.

Mostly the same, but the scans it produces have the jail bar light streak look to them. If you look at the scans just posted you will see 6 LED light streaks on the card. Most noticeable around the PSA label. This may make refractor cards look like actual refractor cards more. You may or may not care, but the v600 will not give you these streaks.

Appreciate the time and insight. Think I'll get the v370. There aren't a lot of refractors in 1880s-1890s Ginter or 80s and 90s RCs.

Yeah, should be fine then as long as you don't mind the light streaks. Comparison below. Also, the v370 has been discontinued, while the v600 is a current model.

V600 (my scan):

V370 (Hatchd's scan):

Wow only $30? I think I grabbed mine for about $100 4ish years ago. Surprised it's so close in price to the v600.

Yep. $199 on Amazon right now vs $229 for the v600. With the info that the 370 is discontinued I'll likely grab the 600 just because.

I used some of your tweaks and tried a few scans. Turning off the lights to make it mainly a dark room, leaving the lid open, and using a BGS slab to move the scanned item away from the lip made the scans better. The PSA slabs especially look cleaner. The SGC labels are old and faded in hand and I'll probably have them reslabbed in the new tuxedos at some point. There is still a ton of room for improvement though so I ordered a V600.

You got much closer to perfection there. If you follow this process (and it looks like you are doing a great job) the V600 will get you the rest of the way. Nice work!

I have always been impressed by these 2 sport athletes. NFL safety and MLB outfielder, 1999 All Star...

Someone put a Buy It Now of $39.99 on it a month ago. You’ve never seen someone click that button so fast. Early bird gets the worm!
