So he doesn't owe anybody anything? I beg to differ. If it weren't for the fans he probably would not have been able to afford whatever vacation trip he just went on. If it weren't for the fans, he could potentially be working a sucky job making a sucky salary. If it weren't for the fans, no one would even be reading his ungrateful posts.

Autograph hounds give themselves a bad wrap, and they deserve it. I have no problem with culling them from autograph lines and request stacks. They are easy to spot. But to say that everyone else should pound sand is silly. The fans are owed (to a degree). If I got to play this game for a living I would sign for every kid until there were no more there, or until my hand fell off.
Sweet entitlement. How much exactly have you paid to his contract ? Even as a season ticket holder that would come out to a few dollars. So now you deserve to be able bother the dude and his family at home ? How about they stick to requests at his job that you paid a few dollars for.

I'm not sure who posted his address, or in what manner. But he's handled it poorly.

Yup, playing baseball for fans and building cars for customers are the same.

There are a lot of Max Muncy autographs coming out of recent products. Seems like he is ok with giving back to the fans and signing while at home. He just wants to get paid. So is it his privacy what he is actually concerned about? Doubt it.

If it's the same people who already sent to him with success and re-sent without Muncy's permission, that's just selfish. If it's new people that saw the address and had no idea he didn't want the mail, I don't see the issue.

Sounds like he's a nice, possibly naive guy who didn't anticipate that a voracious group of autograph hounds exists out there that would pounce for a $5 auto once his address got widely leaked

Do you realize how many players/celebrities are not actually signing those TTM requests? Some have people who can mimic signatures so they don't have to deal with it. Family members/friends/professionals. Some do it. The entire thing is creepy if you're not a kid IMO.

"Hello famous person, I'm a huge fan. Can you please sign these rookie cards and send them back to me? Thanks."

Coming from the context of a child, it's almost endearing. Any other context, it's weird. I'm sure this will ruffle feathers here, but I just don't care.

Obviously won't change your mind, like you won't change mine. But agree or not, the players do owe the fans. Without the fans, they would no longer have a game to play.
They don't owe YOU or anyone anything. Deal with it.

Do me a favor and send me 500 autographs of yourself. You post on a public forum. You are in the public eye. People here know you.

You owe it to all the people here to give back for all the money you've made on this site.

Do you see how stupid that sounds? Before you send off any autographs, I'm just making a point.

Muncy or any celebrity doesn't owe you anything.

How is the fan supposed to know beforehand that he didn't want mail anymore? He was signing smaller amounts. So should everyone around the world that wanted to send have gotten together to make sure they're not sending too much? I don't think you're thinking this through.

You are very naive at the players that DO sign fan mail. And mail sent to their homes, at that.

Muncy's post just came off as pissy. He could've been more effective with a more respectful response to the fans.

His? None. I don't like the Dodgers. I don't want anything from any of the players outside of ballpark. I am a grown man and enjoy the game for what it is. But if someone's kid wants to get an autograph of their favorite player it should be an option. How often does Muncy sign at the field? I honestly don't know. Autographs are a part of baseball. I don't care if you call it entitlement or not.

Finally we agree on something. Your post sounds stupid....lol.

Once again, you failed at making a solid analogy, but I will bite. If you contributed to me paying my mortgage and wanted me to sign something for you I would be more than happy. I value my customer base and do what I can for them. A couple pen strokes would be the least I could do to say thank you if they wanted it.

Yes, I am aware that many big stars (and even smaller names) use autopens, pre-printed signatures, and ghost signers.

There's a disconnect between TTM's and card company "official" signatures as well. The players aren't signing all of their certified autographs, either. They're not watching the players sign. Many stickers are simply sent through the mail, and done on trust. In that way, there's not a whole lot of difference.

You just dont get it.

Baseball players are away from home from early February until mid October or if they are lucky, until early November leaving them three or four months to enjoy their down time and their family. As he said he just came back from a vacation in which he likely enjoyed the opportunity to get away from people recognizing him and constantly pulling at him to give them a piece of his time just because he is good at a game and everyone knows him. Who cares that this took away from time spent with his family while on his own time because after all, the fans pay his salary and he owes them a moment of his time to give back to them.

Get the autos at the ball park or better yet, send the TTM to the stadium. Be creative and send to the stadium the team will be visiting and mark it in care of "the visiting clubhouse" where the player is less likely to get any mail. Just leave the guy alone at his home where he is allowed to relax and unwind without having someone own a piece of his time because he makes a crazy mount of money or someone once paid to see him do his job.

I'm signing off from this discussion. Its been fun.

PS...You suck Muncy! One of these days when your playing career is over you will wish you were good enough for people to still want your autograph. Enjoy it while it lasts.
