Well, for those who remember the old Topps Stadium Club, which began in tandem with their early 1990's deluxe Stadium Club card set releases for all four sports (ah, the days when Topps held licenses for them all...), they did offer members the chance to buy 6 packs of 1992-93 Topps Stadium Club Basketball Series 2 (with possible Shaq rookies in them) for retail price. That was a great deal as the packs were literally selling for $6 at hobby shops, one of the first sets (along with these baseball hits: '89 Upper Deck, '90 Leaf, 91 Stadium, and 92 Bowman) whose packs sold for more than triple suggested retail price, shortly after issue.
Buying opportunities like that would add great value to this new club, which as an original Topps Living HODL Club Member, I practically feel obligated to join.

I decided to buy in. In my opinion, it's no more of a gamble than buying two boxes throughout the year...with the potential for much more.

Pretty much this for me too. Worst case, I get $20 worth of stuff back. Best case, I might get some really cool rare stuff. Either way, it's a write off.

Exactly. If it's an absolute disaster, you sell everything for $100 and you're out $100.

But IF it's an absolute disaster, Topps will do something to entice you to sign on for another year.

The "worst case" doesn't seem too bad here.

This is a no brainer in my mind. If you have been around for a while then you understand Topps first rollout of something new is normally pretty strong. And if it isn't......you just opened an average box of triple threads and got $40 back on your $200 investment.

Why, with the padded envelopes and inner bubble wrap I've got from Now, Living, and 80th Anniversary alone this season, I've been able to completely re-insulate my attic. I can't wait for all the fluffy packaging that'll come with this club's mailings!

Another horrific Nolan Ryan bronze Stadium Club card would be a nice companion to the original:

I got one. Hopefully the auto is an auto version of one of the cards in the 20 card set.

3 hopes for me for this program:

1. Nice on card autos from players that we would all be happy to have (not the lower wrung guys that seem to have a million autos in every product)
2. They keep the membership at a low enough # so these stay somewhat exclusive. (I like the idea of 582, but I assume it will be a lot more if it is limited at all)
3. They use a higher quality/thicker card stock than flagship.

This was my exact same logic.

Hoping they over deliver on this first 'club' to lure in members to subsequent clubs

Topps isn't stupid. If the value is not there for the $200 then no one will renew and this program will die on the vine. On the other hand, if they kill it word of mouth will do their selling for them in 2019.

This is how these things go. People aren't sure about a new thing, so not a lot buy in. Topps (and other companies) puts out basically what they say they will, which isn't super exciting in a vacuum, but the print runs are so short that people get interested and prices explode. Not wanting to miss out of the next thing, lots of people buy into the next round and then decide that Topps ruined it when prices aren't close to what the first round was.

After saying I wouldnt buy in because I’m not a big baseball guy...... I did. You guys sucked me in. Damn you! I didn’t want to be left standing at the train station as this program took off.

I’ve spent $200 in far worse ways. I’ll roll the dice at least this first year and see what Topps has up their sleeves.
