Quote:
Asked about comments Ohtani made in an article recently published in Numbers, a Japanese sports magazine, that not every team can afford a lucrative salary for one player, Balelo said: “In general, I think it’s whatever he decides to do at the end of the year. I think it’s going to be an exciting time. Not knowing exactly what you’re referencing on the Numbers’ article and what teams can afford him, what teams can’t. I think all 30 teams in their own way want to compete. … So I wouldn’t rule out anybody whether they can afford a salary or not.
Quote:
“But look, that’s ways down the road. We don’t know. We can think about free agency, we can not think about free agency, but we know this: That he’s going to be an Angel in ’23. We’re going to play it out. We’re going to enjoy it. And take one year at a time. And that’s always been our philosophy.”
Edit: I've looked for the "Numbers" article but cannot find an English translation.

Got this back from PSA today. Nothing crazy but it was the first card I got excited about pulling when I got back into the hobby a few years back so I wanted to slab it up just for PC purposes. Love this card, and love the red psa border to match the jersey.

2019 Chrome 1984 Gold Refractor /50

I think this is a new high so I will post it.

2018 Bowman Pitching Ohtani (1st Bowman) RC Base Auto PSA 10 went for $16.0K. Ohtani high-end swimming upstream while everything else is going down.

Shohei just announced that he will be participating in the upcoming WBC for team Japan.
(or at least told the Japan coach that he is ready to do so)
Sho time continues even during the MLB off-season!

I hope he sticks to just closing to not disrupt his offseason regiment. This is good for baseball.

Not translated, but he starts his announcement with "it was a tough season, but.."

Nice.
Fujinami will be posted soon to the MLB market as well, though not sure how much interest he can get from the league.
He has quite a bit of control issues.

Would have preferred Shohei sit out the WBC...now we must hope both he and Mike Trout emerge unscathed.

There's a Topps Transcendent VIP kanji auto on ebay...it seems like all the licensed kanji autos are randomly interspersed alongside his "regular" auto, which makes me wonder if an unscrupulous person could wipe a "regular" auto and replace it with a kanji one. Seems like the kanji auto could be easier to fake as well, at least to an American who may not necessarily be well-versed in what to look for in a kanji signature. Anyone have any thoughts? Is this something you're wary of? Am I overthinking it?

Kind of an out-of-left-field question, but what do you guys think most collectors would find more desirable and/or more valuable:

shohei’s 2018 topps red chrome sapphire RC /10 or his 2018 topps red chrome RC /5?

Any and all opinions are appreciated

It’s fake. One just did 7.2k bidding. No way that was real. Good ol’ fake buy it now comp.

The answer is yes, it's fakeable. If you learn the correct stroke order of the characters, it's just a matter of emulating. With enough reps, even a grade schooler can do it.

Sorry but it's real. I am the seller and it was paid for, going through AG. Doesn't get anymore real than that.

The 7.2K was a streaky yucky auto. I can't speak to how much, but that matters. I would never buy a streaky Ohtani auto, and I've bought 50+.

Edit: I would never buy a streaky Ohtani auto if given a choice. You don't have a choice for Bowman Pitching Gold/Green since that's just where the pen was at in its lifespan.

Always go with the OG. RED /5 all day.

Sapphire is still a great product but Topps has turned it out like a $5 prostitute lately and it's just not the premium product it once was.

The super 1/1 TC Ohtani 700 is on Goldin - the one pcpsport? used to own and sold for a ransom. I doubt it hits six figures again but very interesting how even wealthy buyers can have weak hands in a bad economy.

Before his breakout season, two of these cards sold close timing to each other and both had serial numbers close to each other but not close to 3. The description in one of the listings was that during the signing, the seller watched Ohtani sign his card in kanji at the party. One of them sold was graded by PSA. Not aware of a 3rd card but it could be possible. Hope this helps.

Yeah same card that he owned and sold for about 200k. Gem Mint or one of those companies will probably buy it and list on Jeter’s marketplace for 1 million lol.

Wow can’t believe someone paid that much for that. Congrats. A good auto will sell for 10% more than a streaky auto. Especially with that 7.2k bidding I’m sure the good auto won’t sell for 8k bidding now.

I love how people throw out numbers on here like these things are set in stone. Where did you get the 10% from? Your A: drive?
