This has to have happened a lot unless Topps/artists buy them all up at the last minute.

Absolutely … maybe they’ll revise the one-per-household policy so the hardcore fans can get all the APs they want. Hard to imagine some of these cards have 50 unique buyers at $125+

My recommendation is to avoid APs altogether, as they are addictive.

What's your current Project 70 Top 5, and why? Don't forget the why, that's what's interesting.

My first pass at a Top 5...

JK5's Mike Trout
-great colors and shading
-visual flow to/from the upper right corner provides order to most of the details
-Trout's profile mostly within the logo provides both some contrast and an interesting melding of the upper legs and logo

Quicc's Ernie Banks
-the smiles are contagious
-subtle but effective elements: background circle ties things together, less vibrant mascot provides contrast and depth

Morning Breath's Willie Mays
-like the Quiccs Banks, just makes me smile
-fun color combos
-has a comfort like the ghost signs on old brick buildings

Alex Pardee's Mike Trout
-great depth: hat and hand overlap the frame, bat reaching out, lighting sources created
-gooey elements added to the fun 1990 frame
-anonymity of the face goes with Trout's low-key personality

Matt Taylor's Doc Ellis
-has a calmness: colors, flowing and floating elements
-the outlining and layering helps digest all the details

Chuck Styles' Hank Aaron
Yes, I know this is a sixth, but it is so close. Styles' stuff is powerful, but loses a bit with the card year graphics included. I know that's part of the project, but seeing his canvases (and barber skills) in the Meet the Artist video impressed me. His Aaron might be my favorite Project 70 design if left in the canvas form.

Pardee Acuna- amazing card, when it came out, was different from anything else we have seen in either project.

Ermsy Trout- just a fun card

Rochester Soto, cool card of one of the best young players in the game

Naturel Bo Jackson just feels like this should have been a P2020 card. Wish Topps would have cut Rivera in favor of Bo
.
Efdot Ozzie Smith - easily the best of the Ozzie cards we have gotten

Bonus pick, Ermsy Trout chase card, cool take on his original

If there’s an iconic bowman 92 card, it’s piazza. Why pick Rivera over that?

That said, the 86 bo in p20 would have ruled.

Agreed. The Rivera card always seemed out of place to me in the P2020 set. There were so many other, better options. It's not an iconic card at all.

You could also have cut Ryan. Nothing iconic about the 69 at all. I get topps not wanting to use the 68 since it was a dual card but how Ryan made the cut and not the 54 Aaron is bizarre. If they had the rights to Mantle, he would have been included for sure.

The card is special as one of the last standalone rookie cards for modern Hall of Famers

That Brittany Palmer card will be terrible in hand. You can't read any of that writing on a baseball card.

Don't need any of today's cards.

3 for 20 this week.

Can't wait for 4 card Action Bronson day sometime in December. That will make Silas happy.

Unless he includes some Mets.

That will make Silas unhappy.

Well, the Pederson just means less Naturel prints, right? Love his art and cards, not a huge fan of all of his subjects, though. Probably shouldn't have pre-bought, live and learn. They can't all be zingers.

In no particular order today. Ask me tomorrow and it might be another 5.

Brittney Palmer - Jim Palmer

The Palmer-Palmer duo is just a fun card. Great use of color. Oozes nostalgia. Kicked off the video game subset. Clever nod to Jim’s nickname. Who doesn’t love pancakes?

https://gumstickstudios.com/series/item/2012

Chuck Styles - Ernie Banks

Ernie’s smile is as contagious as ever…and that cub! Just a wholesome and beautiful rendering of the greatest Cub of all.

https://gumstickstudios.com/series/item/4022

Lauren Taylor - Ty Cobb

Ty’s “Take No Prisoners” glare is as menacing as Ernie’s smile was contagious. Stunning contrast of the dark blue/teal/aquamarine/whatever. I find it mesmerizing. Don’t see the ass man unless I go out of my way to see it. Feels like I am in actually on the field as Ty’s famous slide unfolded.

https://gumstickstudios.com/series/item/4192

Matt Taylor - Bo Bichette

My favorite P70 artist, and it’s not particularly close. Tough to pick just one, but Bo’s flow is just…whoa, dude.

https://gumstickstudios.com/series/item/2565

Quiccs - Shohei Ohtani

The 2nd Ohtani out the gate, and long before we knew what sort of season was about to unfold. Just a great depiction of his two-way prowess.

Personal bonus: 1977 provided some of my earliest pack ripping memories. Never got the love I thought it should.
