Do the Topps artists need approval to use another piece of art as their template? Or does this fall under parody? If the latter, I hope SoleFly reached out to the original artist for their blessing.

Does anyone know how many more days are left in Project 70? I'm still hoping and waiting for a few Red Sox players that haven't made it into P70 yet and getting annoyed by all these Ohtani, Trout, Judge, Tatis and Acuna every day

Really like what Matt Taylor is doing this year. Other than a few questionable subjects (to me), I dare say I like his P70 run more than his P2020.

If someone ends up with a complete Taylor run at the end, perhaps we can work out a possible 1:1 trade for my complete P2020 Taylor run.

Months are left. In theory we should get a Distorted Rafael Devers as it would fit with her set and makes a lot of sense.

As of tomorrow, there will be 641 cards released. If they still hold to the original 1,020 cards (assuming they figure out what they are doing with Action Bronson and Blue the Great), that means 379 cards to go. At 20 cards per week (assuming M-F including holidays), that is just under 19 weeks, which would put the final drop of P70 at around 2/24/22.

I believe Project 2022 starts on March 1, it will be 100 artists doing 100 cards each, for a 10,000 card set whose final cards will drop on December 31, 2025 - the last day of Topps' license. Fanatics Project 2026 is scheduled to start on January 1, 2026. Topps' Premier League Lacrosse project is also expected to debut on January 1, 2026.

I was wondering about the IP, too, and how it relates to parody. This seems like a simple ripoff, but I don't know what, if any, conversations took place behind the scenes. I agree the original artist should be credited as co-creator if they did receive permission.

Of all the lazy and poorly done cards, this is the only one that really grinds my gears. Just a lousy cash grab done by an artist who was too lazy to apply the copied design to the chosen player, or add any clever details of his own. SoleFly should have slapped a Dodgers uniform on the character and made this a Hideo Nomo card instead. Even with the wrong throwing arm, at least the windup would be somewhat close to Nomo’s.

I’ll take Pose’s Ichiro over SoleFly’s Ohtani every time. Hell, Pose may have actually referenced a picture of a 450lb hairy guy in a speedo and slapped Ichiro’s head on it. If that was the case, at least Pose had enough sense to cover up the parts that obviously had nothing to do with Ichiro... even if he covered up a third of Ichiro’s face in the process.

I think it's great that POSE's Ichiro got such a response here and I totally agree that I'd take an original work over a lazy cash grab any day. There have been too many of the latter in P70. I also collected Matt Taylor’s P2020 set, and am doing his P70 set as well. Very underrated artist, IMO. My favorite of his P70 cards is also the lowest printed (Mookie Betts, PR 999)
