It's a separate organizations unofficial polling, kind of like USA Today staff vote for MVP. It isn't the organization that matters in deciding this.

And many people here, those of who were apparently posting that, don't know what they are talking about.

You're right, he only won by 2 votes. Keyword being won. I don't know that Houston is celebrating losing the WS by only 1 game since that should be essentially a veritable tie also if going off that example.

When you question his career.. that shows he's been significantly better on the road.. in a cheating scandal that involves sign stealing at home.. that doesn't make any sense.

I'm not sure you mean to use "disingenuous"... do you mean "irrelevant" "spurious" "incorrect"?

Disingenuous would imply that he doesn't believe that the splits have some explanatory power. I'm sure he does.

What I do find disingenuous? We seem to be having debates with 2019 stats vs. 2017 when the alleged cheating occurred. This cannot be lost on you or others - you are too smart for that. No one has accused them of cheating in 2019.

This is going to force me to look up 2017 stats

It might seem counterintuitive, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t make sense. We could compare these numbers to his numbers when NOT stealing signs...except that’s not possible, since the Astros have been cheating since he was called up. Perhaps it will make more sense to you when his numbers fall thru the floor next year..?

Look up the career splits. He's been a regular since 2017, so it's a perfect timeframe. And in 2016, he was significantly better on the road.

You're taking what might happen in the future as more valuable.. vs. what already happened in the past? This makes even less sense. Unless you're saying they're also cheating on the road.. and BETTER than they are at home.. performance in cheating/non-cheating parks is all you have. And he's been much better on the road.

OK... here were Astros Home/Away splits for the years they were accused (2015-2017) of employing video equipment to steal signs at home (but not on the road):

Home rOPS+ vs. Road rOPS+

2015: 103 vs. 113
2016: 91 vs. 107
2017: 110 vs. 127
2018: 99 vs. 116
2019: 128 vs. 119

Interesting that the three years they are alleged to have cheated, their home split was worse than the road. 2018 as well. But come 2019, when the league instituted changes to make the type of cheating the Astros did in the past very very hard... well their home split now took over as best.

I think you are confusing causation with correlation.

Are you suggesting that Bregman isn’t a cheater...or that he’s just not a very good one..?

We're also assuming we know that every player on Houston wanted the signs. If you listen to former pros talk about times when they had the other team's signs, you'll hear mentions of guys that DIDN'T want to know what was coming.

I honestly don't know.

But what is being pushed is the idea that a healthy chunk of Bregman's performance is BECAUSE he/the team has been cheating. There is no way you can reasonably come to that conclusion.

There was a chart that showed Bregman was really good at hitting fly ball homers to the pull side in EVERY park.

And before anyone says doing this consciously isn't a thing, don't forget Soto's interview after that oppo bomb in Houston. He talked about how we knew that left field in that park was his best shot to hit a home run.
