Well, it depends on your cost basis and if you want to split out some sells over the course of the next 6 years.

I liquidated my Alex Jackson cards last December... LOL

Spot on!

Getting back into collecting ignited my interest in following young players and checking stats daily. I’m pretty grateful for that and hope the same will happen for others

We haven’t had this kind of young talent in the game in a long time...

A Topps Chrome purple refractor PSA 9 just sold for $336.

I remember the days when the purple print run of 299 just seemed soooo high. (That was, like, some time around Christmas.) Now they’re selling for what 1st Bowman Chrome golds used to go for.

Speaking of purple. I know its Bowman Platinum, but I pulled it myself and sent it along in a group sub a year later. It really does pop.

Says someone every year...it’s how Topps sells products to gamblers.

There’s just as much veteran talent today as there is young talent.

Nothing’s changed

He said “this kind”, not “this amount”. He’s right. There hasn’t been this amount of skilled under 25 talent in the league in a while and it’s pretty exciting.

Shout out to you for trying, there are lots of veteran players in the league as well.

Nah. I've been watching baseball since the late 70s and I can't recall there being this much under 25 talent. These are potentially generational players. It's amazing to watch.

What about the early 1980's?

Look at 1982 for example:

Tony Gwynn 22
Ripken 21
Boggs 24
Sandberg 22
Raines 22
Rickey Henderson 23

Those guys were all generational talent, and most "5 tool" players.

Hindsight helps a bit with this list, but just adding some context to your statement.

Gwynn was a two sport beast for sure, and a 3rd round pick. Though he didn't get any ROY votes in 82.

Ripken won ROY in 82.

Boggs was 3rd in ROY in 82.

Sandberg was 6th in ROY in 82.

Raines was 2nd in ROY in 81, All-Star in 82.

Rickey was Rickey, obviously.

Ok but we can all agree it’s been a long time. These young guys can play !!

This was a good period for sure. I hope these guys can replicate those players.

I hope so too, but I think we can go ahead and say NONE will be a Tony Gwynn (batting for that average) or Rickey Henderson (stolen bases).

Also, none of today's youngsters will ever remotely sniff Cal Ripken (consecutive games).

Speaking of Vladdy Purple Refractors... I picked this up on COMC recently.

I know it's not a "team color" but for some reason the colors look great together (IMO).

Correct, none will come close to any of those three’s totals in a statistical row..but ESPECIALLY Ripken’s

You can add Boggs and Raines to anyone touching the average and stolen bases, respectively.

In fact none of todays young stars will steal as many bases as Tony Gwynn in my opinion, with the exception of Acuna, who may have a chance if he stays healthy.

Bc stolen bases are not as relevant in this day and age. It is dumb to continue to try to make this point.

"Relevant" for "Prevalent"?

Swiping a bag and taking an extra base is still relevant...

If Acuna approaches 40/40...it's what every sports show will begin and end their show w/ for a month. Swiping bags is still very much a thing.
