I know. I just thought he may have chosen 1978 instead of 1977 as part of his "error" schtick for this set.

Opposite of people in the thread not knowing Bad Bunny and not understanding the appeal of a Dogecoin. I was born in the 80’s so don’t get the GPKs love. I do remember buying a pack and some candy cigs when I was like 5, but that’s about it. Also, the GPK on demand cards sell less than Project 70 cards.

What I will say is it’s good for Ermsy to go into pop culture collecting trends as much as he can. Not being able to parody old cartoons limits his cards being closer to his normal art. I’d love to see him continue to loosen up from his card style by seeing how far he can push Topps with old pop culture.

Edit: It is also just nice to see the thread overall excited about a Project 70 card.

Maybe this cute little guy pouring honey on Betty Boop?

I'd buy that on a Mark Prior or Kerry Wood card.

I’m going to stick my neck out and guess the Ermsy does under 12.5k.
There are rabbid GPK fans, and the GPK NFT sold out super quickly (and well before all the Top Shot / Panini hype), but I don’t see them stockpiling ten-slab bricks of this card.
(I’m also introducing “a brick” as the new unit of measurement of a ten-pack. For all you dirty foil chasers. Usage: “I grabbed four bricks of Blue The Great looking for that foil goodness, but it still didn’t scratch the itch.”)

Does the GPK crossover open the doors for a Star Wars crossover? I'd pay $20 for a card tying in the Yankees + Evil Empire + Star Wars. What are some other possible baseball + Star Wars combos that may work?

12.5k is a big number for P70; can't argue that. Would put the card in the top 3 print runs, which all happened relatively close to one another during the earlier days of the set.

Didn’t JK5 do that in 2020 with his Ichiro card?

Possible. I didn't buy any Ichiro cards from P2020.

His Clemente had Darth Vader and Mandalorian helmets.

But for the Framed Art Print there were changes made.

1) you could root for the team that was kind of nearest and had become the de facto "home team" thanks to having a AA affiliate in your hometown. In my case, this would have been the Cardinals who, at the time, had the Arkansas Travelers in their feeder system. I hated the Cardinals with a passion but most of my friends were Ozzie Smith and Jack Clark fans.

2) you could catch every game imaginable of the Chicago Cubs on WGN if you had basic cable. I did not like the Cubs but thought they were at least interesting and loved Wrigley.

3) you could catch every game imaginable of the Atlanta Braves on TBS if you had basic cable. Tuning into Braves games in 1983 and watching Murph swat home runs, steal bases and gun down runners on the base paths en route to winning NL MVP was essentially my intro to MLB baseball and I loved it. Had every Murphy poster in my room, traded all my Ozzie Smith and Sandberg cards for Murphy cards and pretty much copied his pre-swing bat wobble - much to the chagrin of my little league coaches - while dutifully watching every game I possibly could. It wasn't 100% voluntary fandom as there were really only 3 choices, but it was about as true of a sports fandom as I've ever had.

I've been a Braves fan ever since.
Really interesting explanation, thank you!

It was simpler for me, and almost everyone around: Root for who your family rooted for. Except my friend who chose the Marlins because he was a Dolphins fan.

TBS was still a thing later, there were a few kids who rooted for the Braves due to that (after the Red Sox, Yankees, Expos and Mets they were probably 5th and there's a chance they were even more popular than the Expos and Mets, honestly).

Re: minor league affiliates, when Vermont switched their affiliation to Oakland there wasn't a sudden explosion of A's fans, though. We have a Futures Collegiate Baseball League team in their place and although the baseball isn't as good, the rooting is mostly for the home team anyway.

Glad you got a Dale Murphy card!

Rivera is 1997.

I was born in the first half of the 80s and I was totally aware of GPK and bought cards, they lasted for quite a while as a current trend with kids, guess your town just didnt get the memo (or mine was stuck in the past).

But I still dont think Adam Bomb is so much an icon that he alone tacks on 20k more sales or something. I think the /27 chase card will do most of the work.

Topps owns / created Garbage Pail Kids, and it licenses Star Wars, so they would have to probably work out a deal with Disney while they wouldnt need to do such a thing with GPK.

You are 100% right, odd that Risk forgot the Topps logo, he usually carries that over as well. I knew it seemed weird that he didnt have all the 1970 elements represented as is his trend, so its another bobbling by the Topps web team.

There was also that "root for who your family roots for" element and there were a handful of kids who were Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers fans because of it - but we're talking maybe a handful out of the entire Little League ecosystem of kids you played with/against and in Little Rock, everyone knew everyone.

My dad was a huge baseball fan as a kid but pretty much just rooted for the superstars because he grew up in all caps RURAL Arkansas. Family was so poor they never traveled out of Arkansas and he didn't leave the state until enlisting in the Army. By that time he was a baseball fan who had real world problems and not enough time to develop a true child's "fandom". He liked the Yankees, remembers everything about the day/time the Bobby Thomson "Shot Heard Round the World" was broadcast on the radio after his paper route. Later rooted for Brooks Robinson on account of them going to high school together and they later became friends as adults.

But as I grew up a Braves fan he became a Braves fan. That seemed more common among my friends as well. My two best friends were Cubs and Cardinals fans, respectively, and their families gradually became dedicated Cubs and Cardinals fans who took their families to Wrigley/Busch to root for their teams.

This the one that bugs me even though it’s a nice looking card, the source material is not right for this Topps product.

In all honesty, based on Efdots player choices plus past statements (that I believe) he had said about wanting to pick some under represented teams, maybe this will end the shut out for the Rockies and he does a Trevor Story card?? Granted lots seem to believe his time in Colorado wont be for much longer.
