Acuna's "RC" logo rookie cards matched his actual rookie year. If Acuna was a rookie in 2017, his 2018 cards would not be as collectible, even if they had the logo.

This is not how it played out for Bregman and a Devers... both were held to release in next year’s series 1... and people seem to like their 2nd year RC just fine... in fact the rookie cup on there w/rc logo seems to be a hit for some folks

That is true, but look at the call up dates. Bregman and Devers were called up in Late July. Topps had plenty of time to see if Yordan would be a rookie (130 at bats) and print rookie cards for this years later releases.

Bregman 7/25
Devers 7/24
Yordan 6/9

It is out of Topps’ hands. Before the season, Topps works with MLB to come up with a cut off date for RC designation. They did it in 2019 and Yordan was after it, thus his RCs will be in 2020. Same with Bichette and many others. It has nothing to do with sales, it has everything to do with adhering to rules agreed upon.

I don't think they set a date before the season starts. I've always thought there was a certain amount of guesswork and projection, but it's also dictated by who the clubs call up. There is some subjectivity as well as the simple logistics of producing a card.

They have featured Kyle Tucker in a lot of sets starting with Series 1, and a lot of autos in products like Tier One, Snapshots, and so on, plus Topps Chrome and Bowman and all that. I suspect they thought Houston would call Tucker up before Yordan, or he'd just make the team out of ST, and produced cards with the idea that he'd be a leading ROY guy this year instead of next (hopefully he keeps his eligibility). Calling up Yordan, one of the highest profile prospects, so early forced them to make 6/9 the cut-off.

If you look at the list of MLB debuts this year, it's clear that this year June 9 and later debuts get the call-up tag, if they get a card at all, but it's a little muddy.

Colin Poche debuted on 6/8 and he got the RC logo on his Topps Total card. Poche was in Total Wave 6, which I think came out last week, and was solicited in the second half of August, I believe. However, Tommy Edman debuted the same day and he has the call-up tag on his Topps Now card. Poche and Edman are the only 6/8 guys with 2019 Topps/Bowman MLB cards so far as I find on ebay, and it will be interesting to see if they or others get any more and how they are tagged. But I'd surmise they just arbitrarily decided to give Poche, an unheralded Tampa set-up man, an RC logo (because who knows if they'll even make a card of him again), while "saving" it for Edman who is a bit higher profile guy on a popular Cardinal team.

Peter Fairbanks also debuted 6/9, but he has no 2019 card as yet.

Since Yordan appeared in Platinum and Sterling without the logo, it seems clear that while they were inclined to include him in prospect-based sets, they did not anticipate his getting brought up so early. Those cards must have been in production during the early part of the year or somewhere along in the season, and they were too late to either change the design to include the logo, or pull them out to prevent the conflict of having a card actually come out after his debut without the logo, which is supposedly the whole point of the logo.

BTW, Edman is doing pretty well. His only card at all is Topps Now, currently very pricey with a low 337 print run, and he's .297 with a .831 OPS on 11 homers and 16 2B. He's 24, so the bloom is off his prospect hype rose, but he could be a fairly hot name when he starts getting cards, and if his RC logo comes on 2019 or 2020 cards.

I think alot of people are now just waiting for his RC logo stuff next year and maybe picking up his 1st year BC autos going into the playoffs. His cards in between will not hold as much value in the long run.

I bought over 100 2019 BC refractors before everyone told me they won't be worth anything. Most are /50 or less. Guess I'm just going to grade them and wait and see. Seems stupid but I don't follow baseball and my fault for just assuming sports were the same.

Why does everyone over think the RC card release, all the time. If your salary & employment at Topps depended on it, we all would wait to put Yordan in 2020 S1. 100% No doubt. S1 typically sucks. Update '19 will sell thru just fine. Why wouldn't you put your cash cow (Yordan) in '20 S1. Its not MLB talking to Topps, its not a certain timetable for call-up, logistics, blah blah blah. Yordan = S1 MONEY! Stop overthinking it.
