This is totally off topic, but...as someone that has been watching/reading/playing basketball for 45 years, there's not a better shooter in history than Curry, but...nothing more annoying than watching his stupid dances and shimmies after he drains a 3. Act like you've made a shot before. My coaches back in the day would have benched me for doing crap like that. Why aren't more announcers, coaches, or former players ever talking about that bizarre aspect of his game?

Because he doesn’t do it after most of his three point buckets.

Sold off my collection back in 2015 for basically nothing, including a first-year Prizm Silver for $5...

Kind of a question related to steph: Why was 2009/2010 topps the only product topps released that year? I know they lost the license to panini, but just kind of strange.

Question about a PWCC Premier Auction sale of a 2009-10 Topps Chrome Refractor Stephen Curry BGS 9 (https://premierauction.pwccmarketpla...r-auction/1349).

If it sold for $49,200, does that number include the 20% buyer's premium? In other words, did the buyer pay $49,200 to obtain the card? Or does the buyer need to pay 1.2 x $49,200 ($59,040) to obtain the card?

I think because the Panini deal was announced in early 2009 and went into effect for the 2009/10 season, Topps didnt have enough time to put together more than a few sets. Sets are scheduled for release throughout the year. Topps was still releasing products from the previous season in 2009:

2008/09 Topps Signature was released on April 13th, 2009.

They moved up the release dates for the 2009 sets:

2008/09 Topps was released on September 10, 2008.
2009/10 Topps was released on August 25th, 2009

Panini released their first set on October 21, 2009

Sold price shown includes the buyer’s premium.

It wasn't actually. They also released the Bowman set, a card of which you can see in my avatar.

In terms of why they didn't release more, I think I'd ask:

What else should they have released?

I'd expect they'd have released plenty more if they thought they'd clearly make significantly more profit, so to me it's less a question of why they didn't make a lot more, and more about whether there's a particular set that seems like it should have been made.

Finest?

Topps currently needs 3-6 months lead time to release a product. Back in 2009 they also had baseball and football products.

2007/08 Finest was released on June 24, 2008. So I think they cancelled the 2008 release, which would have been released in mid 2009, to focus on 2009 Topps and Bowman 48.

Not anything crazy but I pulled a Steph “straight fire” out of mosaic last week. Nice looking card in hand

Cool, yeah I think that would have been a natural choice for a 3rd set.

As you say, the interesting thing is that Finest was already out-of-rotation in 2008-09 for some reason. One explanation for it though is that Finest just wasn't that hot for them at the time.

Other thoughts now that we're talking about 2008-09:

I think it's really clear they put vastly more thought in 2008-09 Topps than they did a typical set. It kinda feels like they decided to pull resources from other brands to create the best possible set they could, and given that 2007-08 ended up being the last year for two of their iconic programs (Finest & Stadium Club) in addition to others, it makes me feel like they knew that their swan song was beginning.

I'll also say that I'm a huge fan of the '09-10 Bowman release for some similar reasons. The Bowman set operates as a companion piece to the 1948 set, and from that lens they really, really nail it.

So yeah, to me, Topps' last 2 years score the best sets in each year as artistic achievements, and I feel warm & fuzzy about both.

ha, I totally forgot about that bowman set. It's just funny to me how iconic 2009 topps has become, and I remember passing on it so many times.

Question about steph. I'm sitting on like, 12 topps RCs of him ranging from PSA 7 to PSA 9s. Are these longer term holds or should I sell them now?

He broke the 3pt record already and I can't see his value spiking that much higher unless he wins MVP, another chip, retires, or HOF. Some of those things will inevitably happen but for the common topps rc at psa 7 and 8, now is as good a time as ever to sell right? or am i better off holding those longer...
